Hamilton predicts disaster.  Not sure what that means, considering how loosely the word has been used in recent years.

Toughy.

Alonso
Kubica
Vettel

I must say that the speed Kubica took the Swimming pool section on his FP3 flying was incredible. Threw that car into the corner and was off the brakes it appeared long before others. Ridiculous and I could see him on pole easily.

He crashed in final practice.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/15052010/58/alonso-qualifying-crash.html

Got up early this morning, just to watch it, just in case.
I'm glad I did too, because I doubt Alonso would be able to go through the entire field and win it.
I'm hoping the switch to Kubica from Rosberg pays off. Undecided

Ah, that explains it, pretty much ruined his race. Thanks for the heads-up. Smiley

Now tell me how Mark Webber got pole with a 1.13.8, 3 tenths faster then anyone else over the entire weekend? Shocked

I didn't see that coming either. I thought Kubica was going to have it for sure.

Wish Massa could have picked up a little more, but maybe he'll get really lucky tomorrow.  Grin Wink

I think Webber could be a force to be reckoned with this year.  I have always rated him (since Minardi), but he has never really had the equipment to show his true potential IMO.  Possibly some bias from me though as he is by far my favourite driver.

Lets wait and see but dont count out Alonso moving up the field. Couple of safety cars at the right moments and he'll be at least in a good points place. The soft tyres will last all of 10 to 14 laps on the front runners cars.
For the geeky few, todays pole lap was faster than that in 2004. So much for controling speeds  Roll Eyes
I'm thinking Kubica for a win tomorrow.

Of course, I had forgotten about the "Alonso Advantage" which has been practiced in the past.  Just have Massa stick it in the wall at La Rascasse

Hmm this Schumi Alonso incident could be interesting.
They have to decided if the race was ended under safety car conditions or not.

Ross Brawn thinking the same way as me. Green flags waving, safety car in message on the boards, race on. Alonso got Owned as the kiddies like to say. Smiley

What happened with Schumi and Alonso? I missed the last 15 laps or so. My wife came home and her car only had 3rd, 4th and 5th gears operating Undecided

3 laps to go, trulli and chandok collide at Rascasse. last lap, message comes up on the board, "safety car in this lap" Back at La Rascasse, Alonso and Schumacher pass the Safety car line with green flags and lights flashing. Alonso gets some bad wheel spin and Schumi passes him into the final turn taking 6th place.

The confusion comes now from a rule
Article 40.13 of the 2010 regulation states that 'If the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

However, this is nullified by the fact that race control put on the teams info board, "safety car in this lap" and then waved the green flags. Had the race ended still under Safety car conditions, the yellows will have still been flying and the SC boards out even if the car had peeled into the pit lane.

So does it come down to either:
-The rule was correctly interpreted, and then exploited during a brain fart by officials, and they keep the spot...
or
-F1 admits they messed up and decide whether or not to swap their spots back?

Someone on autosport has posted an interesting picture.

http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/125019

The end of the aussie GP last year when the exact same situation occured. That though is a picture of how a race would have ended under the safety car.
This however is the end of this GP

Well it seems the FIA have decided they were not willing to admit they screwed up by waving the green flags, and have handed Schumacher a 20 second penalty.
The green flags apparently mean nothing, and this whole safety car line thing needs to be scrapped.

LOL, hes had some issues with that corner in the past.  I suppose it didn't help that Damon Hill was the race driver in the stewards office!

Can't see that being the end of it all. I am as you know not a Shumy fan, but if the race ended behind the safety car..............where is the dam thing. Surly for the race to end behind it, the safety car must be on the track. Or is it one of those situations as in MSC winning by crossing the start finish line in the pits?? It does show though, Schumy has not lost that quick mind and reaction or (supposed) knowledge or the rules. I have to say I am on his side this time......as much as that grieves me Grin

The only thing that bothers me, is the FIA/ Stewards have basically stated, the flag/marshall system means nothing.
I'm not going to rattle off a load of motor-racing rules, but anyone from the casual fan to a club level motor racer, to Michael Schumacher, has a basic understanding of the flags and their meanings.
Regardless of whether its waved 2 miles, or 2 yards from the line, a green flag means, you are free to continue racing at a normal speed. The FIA in their infinate wisdom introduced a safety car line this year, in the case of Monaco this was at the pitlane entry line. This line means you are allowed to overtake from that point instead of waiting for start finish line.
A safety car will not be deployed on track where there is green flag racing, yellow flags and double waved yellows will be waved, and the SC board will be displayed to signal that a safety car is deployed. Where a safety car is not on track, the lead driver will under SC board and waved yellow instruction, lead the field round at a safe reduced pace, overtaking will not be permitted until, the track is clear and the green flag is waved.
Ok maybe some of the rules.  Roll Eyes
I'm not angry because its Schumacher, hell its hardly much to be annoyed over losing 6th. I'm annoyed because someone has clearly screwed up in race control, and is punishing a team because they took advantage of a rule. Roll Eyes

Re-interpiting the rules after an incident to fit what they want seems to be happening quite a lot for the last couple of years. That and so many rule changes, you need to have a lawyer stationed at every pit box Roll Eyes
