On a new machine now.  Re-installing fs2004 from the ground up.  So for some aircraft I need to put the old SOUND.dll into the modlues folder.

Then I need to do something in the fs9.cfg file so that fs2004 does not hiccup at having that old sound dll in there.

Something like "OldSound=1" or something like that.

Can't remember what gets added....or where exactly it goes.

HELP!  Offical "Senior Moment".

best,

.................john

Hi John,

I think you mean FSSound.dll. Just add FSSound.dll=1 to your FS9.cfg and it should work.

The name of the dll in question is FSSound.dll and it does go into your Modules folder.

The proper way to add it to your FS9.cfg file is as follows:

[OLDMODULES]
FSSound.dll=1

If you do not have  the [OLDMODULES] label, just add both lines as above and FS will place them properly when you next start up the sim.

DUH!

I used to know that one like the back of my hand.  Can't believe that I could not for the life of me remember that.

THANKS guys.

I also lost a scad of my custom aircraft setup in a computer virus crash.  Unfortunately not everything was as backed up as it should have been.  I thought it was... but it wan't.

The last time I installed fs2004 .... god was a kid  Wink.

Thanks, Martyn.  I might be taking you up on that.  Some of the wonderful custom gauge work you did for me on that APU (thanks again) might have gone "bye bye" on me.

Some of what was apparently not backed up (still have to virus scan one external usb backup drive to make sure it is not infected) was a number of the custom simpit related files.  Not something that anyone else would have.  I do have some stuff.... but not yet all of it.

And I for sure lost stuff like the key transmission assignments in FSUIPC that took a long time to set up.  That is one I sort of completely forgot about.  So when the Hagstrom card sends something like a "Control -Shift- capital Z" off the main sim machine, FSUIPC sends a value to the machine running the ND in the pit, and it changes range.  That kind of stuff. (Sigh  Roll Eyes )

I'm looking for the old WOAI Fedex package if anyone has that.  WOAI no longer has it.

I also had sent a single copy of my personal JAL repaint of the Jon Murchison BAe 146-200 to SOMEONE (another Senior Moment)...... and I can't remember who now.  That person is the only one other than me who has it.  If you happen to read this....... I'd love a copy of it emailed back!

best,

Fozzer,

I really am.  It is a combination of familiarity, a HUGE investment in payware for it, and the work and $ on the simpit that would have to be undertaken to change over to "The X".

I cannot believe what a different experience fs2004 is on a machine like this.  It is like having a new sim.

Will I eventually go to FSX?  Likely........ because time marches on.  We are not all flying fs98 anymore  Wink.  But to get it where I'd want it when I make the leap....... I'd want it to BE a "leap".  SO the level of payware added to it would require a trip to Fort Knox  Wink.

So fs2004 is in my future for a while.  I still have to discover all that they crammed in that version of the sim before I move on.

best,

John, if you know someone who has a computer which they'd allow you to pop your hard drive in with all the essential information etc do a full virus/spyware/malware scan on the files and i'm sure that you'll find that a lot of the data is restorable...

Perhaps someone local to you on here could help with that??

Nemo,

I am eventually planning on that using a commercial service. (There was one piece of IMPORTANT business data on there.)  But it appears that the drive was REALLY screwed and might not be all that recoverable.  The C drive from the mashine might still have saveable data.... and there are a few things there I'd want.

Appreciate the thought.

best,

..............john

I'm still a rank amateur with flight sim but I also prefer FS9 over FSX. Only complaint I have is the scenery in FS9. I bought the aussie Real Environment X for FS9 thinking iit was scenery enhancement. It was not. Skies, oceans etc but not scenery. Now I have beautiful skies and poor scenery, even though I have Flight One's ground environment and another payware called FScene in  FS
9. Is there any combination of scenery addons you guys could recommend for FS9? Incidentally, REX is sensational.
