I just got the FS2004 IRIS F-35B.  It flies AWESOME!!!  But, I have some questions about effects.  It has this weird issue where part of the AB will be at the right place, but  another part is not.  ....  Get the plane from here: http://www.irisfss.com/freeware/iris_classics_f35.exe.  Can someone fix this for me?  I have never made effects before, so I don't even where to start.    Huh

Edited:
I know how to edit effects and stuff, I just don't know how to make the necessary edits.  The effect is fx_jsf_burner.fx

Ummm...  Can you really suggest which would have been better in reaching the right people to help?  It certainly wouldn't belong in the main FSX forum, as it is a design issue.  Am I missing something?   Huh

Well, it's here now.

If I were you, I'd check the website you downloaded from and see if they have a fix, or if you can contact the authors, since this seems to be something they should fix if they have the file on their website . . . Wink

I downloaded and installed this plane.

The AB effect works fine for me.

Maybe you have a corrupt download, I suggest you re-download it.

Or at least run the installer again, maybe that will fix it.

cheers,
Joe

Didn't help, I dunno.  It might be the fact that it's a FS2004 effect/aircraft in FSX.  I guess I can always find a new Ab effect, but I kind of liked this one.  Thanks for your help, guys.

You make a good point!  Grin I really don't know where I would have put it. Probably in the FSX section, although it's probably not the place. Looks like we need a new forum category maybe?  Huh

No, it's fine where it is.

Depending on the way the afterburner is set up, you would need to edit either the aircraft.cfg, a gauge file or the effect file itself, and there's no way of knowing which short of having the same issue.  I'd help, but I don't have FSX.

I would suggest you ask around on FS Developer.  They may have a solution already in place for this.

I've seen the "offset" in afterburner effects before.  I also believe it has something to do with it being an FS9 effect.  I believe the F-22 for fs9 had a similar "bug" when used if FSX. For some reason some elements of the effects seem locked to "0" in the "Z" (up/down" dimension).  The only real fix is to swap out the AB effect.

Actually, I once proposed an "effects" forum topic.  It was shot down, the reason given was that "effects" could be handled in this forum.

But I'm still all in favor of a separate "Effects Development/Design" forum, since, IMPO, it's just as much part of "aircraft and 3d design" as repainting is.  Oh, wait.  Repainting has it's own forum topic.  Roll Eyes

My bad.  Wink

Tomcat,

I see the same as you when loading the a/c in FSX.

I found the problem is in the .fx file. No expert on .fx but I'm guessing that FSX handles the x,y,z coordinates differently than FS9. In any case, here's what I found....

In several of the [Particle.x] sections (those that produce the 'flame') there is the line 'Y Offset=-0.80, -0.80'. This line is lowering the position of the 'flame' below the position of it's Emitter.

If you wish to edit the .fx, change the values to 0 (zero) or simply delete the lines, which reverts the values to zero.

Edit only the lines that appear in the [Particle.x] sections, NOT those that appear in the [Emitter.x] sections.

AB after edit.
...
I'm not sure the effect appears as the author intended in FS9. Maybe someone could post an image from FS9 to compare......

I take back what I said about there being only "one real fix". Smiley

Thanks for the info!

You know what?  I was looking at that, and saw that.  I didn't make the connection.  I was changing the numbers in the Z axis to be the same, figuring that was the discrepancy.  Thanks!  Btw, @Boikat, that F-22 was an IRIS freeware.  Same company.  I had swapped the effect, too!  LOL, thanks for everyone's help.
