I had a day off from work yesterday, and JP and I were going to do some non-critical work on the 2-33's tailwheel. But it was a beautiful day for flying, and Mike and Andy were prepping the 1-26 for a flight, so we decided to wait for a rainy day to do that, and go flying instead.  Grin Mike got to do an honest day's work of towing, JP got his winter glider-rust off, I got three solo hops in, and newly-minted PP-G Greg showed up to take a ride with JP. Pretty good for an "unofficial" club day.

This time I remembered to put the battery in the camera...  Roll Eyes I didn't take many in-flight snaps, 'cuz I was very busy trying to work the thermals. Did OK, good enough for being a little rusty, still.

A pretty good crosswind today, as we can see on Greg and JP's launch.

...

This little guy was on top of the canopy just as I was about to launch... he didn't stay there long.  Good thing, too, as I am not yet legal to carry pax.  Cheesy

...

The clouds closed in just before my last flight, last of the day. Not quite as gloomy as it looks here, but the sky had "shut down"; not much going on out there lift-wise.

...

I had a nice but brief "sleigh ride" from 3000... looking west, with round Valley Res. in the distance. The visibility was very good all day.

We have some guys planning to start glider ops here this summer, and I am hoping to learn how to fly one of those engineless planes.  I think the plan is to outfit one of the guy's L-19 for tow duty.

Oh my... Roll Eyes

Don't you just feel guilty about not getting that non-critical work done now?   Grin

Right glad to see your back in the saddle and looking forward to some of your great shots of what is happening down your way at the flying club.

When is your next flying club BBQ or club event Sean?

We had one here at one of the bugsmasher fields and the ground was still too soft, they made a mess of the parking lot, it will cost a bit to bring in stone and they can't pave it as it needs new drainage tile which is an expensive job just alone, not counting the paving.
We are on our second day of rain now with rain forecasted for Saturday.  Oh well we need it.   Grin

Sounds good- a Bird Dog makes a damn good towplane. what sort of glider will you be using?

Heck no, it can wait. I lost enough of last season working on that thing.  Grin

We usually just meet up when we can and just fly, usually Sundays and Tuesdays, but between the glider club and the overlapping Champ and Breezy partnership groups, there are usually a few parties at the airport over the summer.  No schedule that I know of, but if you are headed this way this year, let me know and I'll be sure to set a plate aside for you.  Grin We could probably even organize something in your honor, but you'd owe us a few stories in return.  Wink

Goodly morning Sean and all.... Smiley

Thanks Sean, do not think we will be going too far this year with the move and what not.

I overheard the old girl tell one of her babbling sisters in Boston, Massachusetts she would not be down this year because of the move.  The old girl and a couple of other nattering nannies have been going for years to look at shows for the Performing Arts.  The old girl takes the opportunity to stay with one of her last remaining sisters.

So much for my yearly trip to Salem now.

I would find it interesting how the Champ and Breezy partnership groups work.
Are the members all in one club?
Do both aircraft belong to the club?
When someone joins the club do they purchase shares?

I never got involved in aircraft partnerships for personal use as I would buy an aircraft, fly it a year and sell it.  Never lost on a boat or aircraft and sometimes the profit margin was one hundred per-cent.

I know a group of Flying Farmers at one of the bugsmasher fields here are thinking of purchasing a light twin amongst themselves.  It would not belong to the club.  They own an Ag-Cat (think that is what it is called) but not sure how a farmer can write off a light twin for use on the farm.   Grin

It would be interesting to hear how different partnerships are formed.

Have fun on your aviating Sean and OW...if you want some rain we seem to be getting lots of it.  Be glad to talk to Mother Nature and send some your way.   Grin

I don't know the particulars of these partnerships at 47N (equity, non-equity, whatever), just that some of the glider club members are also involved in partnerships on the Breezy and Champ (and some others). Our Simv friend Turboz1r is one of the Breezy partners, you might ask him about that.

As far as the glider club goes, the club leases the Citabria from the club treasurer, but the two gliders are owned collectively by the club members.

As far as I know, they haven't located one yet.  The story is, our resident warbird, CFMEII, FAA Check Pilot, acquired his glider license last year, and is looking to set up an operation here.  It will be interesting, seeing as we are a commercial service airport.
