.. the guy even gives us a farewell present... a W7 tuning guide! LOL

Nick, you know damn well you've been of invaluable help to the FS community for YEARS. Nothing that we do or say will be enough to show our gratitude for you. Get out of here and do what you've been wanting to do, my friend! have fun!

Nick,

You may not leave your position of indentured servitude to the FS community!  You must have forgotten signing your time, freedom and soul away.  Just give me a sec and I will find the relavent document...Just a sec...Its got to be here somewhere!

Good luck, Nick, and thank you.  Though we have never met in person, my old screen name was Plugpenny.  You gave me a LOT of personal advice.  My machine, while not a top of the line i7 based one, is running about as well I could realistically expect all from following your tutorials.  FSX is smooth and looks great.

Again, thank you for all you have done.  I try to spread the love by helping others where I can.  I dont charge them either...but cookies are never refused if they are offered...

If I bring the beer, can I get a trip on the boat?  I'll bring steaks too.  Filets?

See you on the other side...

The Evil Unkie Has Thanked You!

I resemble that remark!!

are you kidding? If anything I owe you a case of the good stuff and a box of chewbans too

No, you didnt miss me, and I wanted to personally thank you in public because you were directly involved with helping the boy learn real piloting skills.

I took him up some months ago.. I took off and landed, but he was on top of everything else right down to the the MAP/mixture for altitude and setting up the approach for landing .. (its a float)

We kept our association quiet here and in other forums. It was better for him to interact without any influences and I wanted him to stand on his own 2 feet. I have not seen him log into a MSFS site in over 9 months now and hes getting out instead of being an online introvert.

He has an open ticket to 3 different flight schools if he wishes to use them (PPL to COM). Thank you Brett, you have no idea how much of an influence you had on him and his RW desire/confidence to obtain his PLL and possibly more.

Everyone here who is serious about learning how to fly past the 'game' aspects should pay very close attention to Brett and what he posts! Brett is the GO TO person for learning how to fly. Hes one hell of a teacher.

Wow! I finally just got around to reading this.

Nick, so sorry to have to say goodbye to such a central member of this community. Even though most of the time I have no idea what the techie stuff means, it sure sounds important.  Wink

My very best wishes, hope to see you drop by once in a while. I will absolutely miss seeing your gorgeous screenshots.

Sincerely,
Barb

Nick I can not tell you how many times you saved my bacon.  I was getting close to calling it quits a few times, what with trying every new driver and tweak that came along.  Then I happened on your posts, and got some personal help from you on the forum, and wow, what a difference you have made.  You sir, will be missed, your name like John White and a few others will go down in simming history.  My thanks to you and all the time you put into our simming and lifes experiences.  Oh yes, before I tear up,  I will especially miss the green  gecko!!   Live along and prosper, Chief.

Now, since SimV was my HOME for a long time, I wish to make an announcement here that I will not make anywhere else

First, this forum is a FAIR and BALANCED place. Unlike many forums who have turned to a marketing hole and I will not name any here, this forum has remained for the simmer and with simmers at heart..

THANK YOU PETE and the MODS who have maintained this spirit! I salute you all

However my time in this and other forums is coming to a close.

You do not know why I started my involvement with MSFS and why I spent a great deal of time helping people here and in other forums, now I will reveal that.

My grandson was a member here and many other forums for many years. He was spending what myself and his stepmother (his mother passed away in a car accident in 1998) considered an unhealthy amount of time at his computer and this hobby was one of the things he enjoyed. With that, I started getting involved online because he was a long distance from me and this was a the best way to assist him and at the same time be a mentor for him. We did not want to stifle his desires or direct him but instead try to guide.

He is in college now and still enjoys his games and MSFS when he has time however he no longer hangs out on the net. We have started a program for him to obtain his PPL and a lot of what he 'started' with for that, began right here.

Brett, you are one heck of a teacher, sir

Over the last several years we also lost a close friend, someone who we considered a family member who was involved at this forum in his last months and who lost a battle to cancer. He was a pilot and a hero in every respect of the word and I was happy to be close to him and his family in his final days.

That is what is important in life, not computers and flight sim, and its what I wanted to inspire in my grandson before he embarked into the real world pursuing his education.

I will continue to assist Anthony Vos with the Ground Environment project as long as I can, however I have done my bit for King and Country, and family, and its time for me to move into my twilight where I have a boat that needs me.

I know I have not been around here much in the last year or so.. I have been monitoring. I am glad to see this forum has remained true to what Pete envisioned years ago, and I sincerely hope it remains that way

Sincerely and from the heart,

Nick Needham

Nick,

Not only have you been a mentor to your Grandson but to countless others, who on this forum, were able to achieve a better understanding of how to optimize their computer's performance for MSFS and especially FSX. And when considering the many different ages and configurations of computers in use, it is indeed a monumental and complicated task made to appear easy by you.

I have four Grandchildren (one in college) who are caught up in the computer environment. I keep reminding them that the best attribute of a computer is not a game but access to information. It's like having your own library in the home. And the most extraordinary computer of all is the human mind which a commercial computer is dependent on to function.

Thank you for the many PC build tips, FSX add-on SW (your sun, night lighting, etc.), and the unending written guidelines for enhancing MSFS. Also for engaging in controversial discussions.

Best of luck and please stay in touch with the forum.

Nick, I wanted to give you a heartfelt thanks for all your work. As they say .."imitation is the best form of flattery".  Chapter 3 in my UGTAFS book is dedicated to you as it details both general installation and some top tweaks for both FS9 and FSX. In a few instances it includes links to your efforts and the appropriate forum. In some ways I have modeled some of my own efforts after yours and have started providing people with alot of helpful information about FS. My FSUIPC guide and FSInn install guide has already helped alot of people get into more advanced flight simulation. I could not have been able to share this information if it had not been for the months of research I performed while digging into many different forums to pull out the best of the best from folks like yourself! So THANK YOU.

If you ever want a free flight tour around San Diego CA, followed up with a lobster dinner...I am the one to call on! I am a real pilot and am finishing up my own commercial multi-engine here at ATP this summer.  My own future plans for FS are to help provide very worthwhile information and products to the sim community at reasonable costs.  With that I hope I can help carry on just some of your many grand efforts!

If I ever get your coat-tails a little dirty, I will surely wipe them clean with my tears! May your course be true, and visibility unrestricted!  Smiley
