Hello there;
@ NickN
is it advisable to get GTX480 in SLI configuration to drive my three Philips monitors for wide display (3D if possible) instead of my current ATI HD4870 X2 and Matrox triplehead2go Digital?

I would really appreciate your input.

Hi nick,
sadly I never had the opportunity to spoke to you and I never met you, BUT I read a lot of FS-guides you left here and there in the net and they're the best ones IMO, I'm trying to follow them and I must thank you if I'm enjoying FSX with almost full graphic.

I would have a lot to ask, but all I want to tell you is good luck, thanks once again, and, may the force serve you well! (sorry but I've always been a sith Grin)

Nick,

Thanks for all the help and knowledge you have shared with all of us, your Grandson is a very lucky person. Im sure that in no time at all you will be telling all the guys at the dock how to squeeze out an extra 2 miles per gal on a tank of gas or writing a guide on proper shove off proceedures or .... Grin Any hoot, good luck with your new endeavors, now lets see a shot of this boat! I bet its a beast.

Thanks guys..

and yes Vic, the boat has been ignored for far too long. A boat is like a woman, if you ignore her she will fall apart and leave you. Its long overdue I get back to her.

I will be over at Simforums for a bit while I organize a new tuning thread but I am not going to be surfing forums past the end of this month.

I know what I post may not work for everyone..  thats because hardware/drivers/OS's are all different. If you take the right approach in building a system and dont try to skimp the results will pay off.

Its far better to spend a few bucks and be happy than save a few bucks and hunt for tweaks for the rest of your life

as for tech question..   to cut to the chase and make this simple, with FSX 1 card/core, not SLI or Crossfire, with a Th2G or Eyefinity and if you need more monitors for controls use a 2nd card for those in single card mode

Also, make sure the motherboard supports x16 across the PCIe ports when more than one card is installed.

keep in mind, most of the newer single core cards can drive 3 monitors on their own

dual core cards are useless to FSX, dont use them

If you absolutely want to run SLi, keep in mind SLI is all in the driver and use 2 single core cards to run it, not 1 dual core card. As Phil Taylor posted years ago, iwhat you get with SLi is not frames, its extended filtering support for higher AA (x16-x32) and only at resolutions higher than 2000x

not frame rates.. those wont change

good luck

Thank you Nick, I've learned a LOT from you and the forums, especially about using the "search function"!

Maybe now you can start your book "FSX for Dummies"!  I want an autographed copy.... Wink

Nick,

You have helped so many people enjoy flight simming over the years by tweaking systems, getting the correct hardware, and understanding what is and is not possible, myself included.

THANKS for all you have done and the vast contributions you have made here at SimV.

Your expertise will be missed.

Enjoy the boat.

best,

..................john

I could not put it any better.

Except for the "John" part, mine would be Dave. Cheesy

Suffice it to say that I learned a LOT from Nick and others here and am very grateful for every bit of it.

Happy trails Sir!  You will be missed!!!

GodSpeed!

Regards,
Dave

Sad to see you go Nick!!!

I hope I can ask a couple of questions...:

What are your thoughts on the GTX 400 series?

And, is CL7 DDR3-1600 good or is CL6 essential?

Thanks for all your help!!!
