Since I started using FTX PNW, I've been  having trouble with disappearing textures which, after 'texture refresh', disappear again.  Sounds suspiciously like a memory problem.  There are 4 Gb of RAM but don't believe the 'virtual' page file settings are correct.  Two hard drives, one with FS9 and all the usual 'explorer' files and the other with FSX and a few other related files.  How much page file (MB) should I allocate to each drive?

500 should be sufficient I think. I  haven't diddled with page files in a long time, but generally if it's low your computer will automatically enlarge it.
