I know there are links around on how to do this, but they are for FSX and do not work in FS9. I finally got some to add, but only the ones with both scenery and texture folders. The ones with only scenery folders still won't add, which includes Glacier Bay.  Sad Cry
Any help appreciated.

The basic principle for adding scenery is the same in FS9 & FSX so I assume the same procedures apply.

The obvious solution would be to give it what it's looking for. Try creating a Texture sub-folder in the Glacier Bay parent folder. This should work even if it's empty.

Thanks Doug, I'll try that.  Smiley

Ive been having problems in FSX ........ and there may be a solution although it means loads of cut n paste.

http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1270158885

Copy any BGLs straight into the Addon Scenery/Scenery file ...... and any textures into the Texture file.
It's worked for me.

I just checked out the Glacier Bay scenery. It comes with an auto-installer & configurator which should add the area to your Scenery.cfg. This means it doesn't need activating from the Scenery Library. I'm wondering if this is compatible with Windows 7.

My Glacier Bay has both scenery and texture subfolders in both the main GB entry and in the Landclass entry so I am confused by anyone saying it only has a scenery subfolder.

The installation does place both entries in the scenery.cfg file but the manual states their position may need to be adjusted manually.

For anyone who is still having issues adding scenery to Win 7, I highly recommend this illustrated thread:

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=205432

A reinstall may be worth trying - but I would also recommend turning off UAC (User Account Control) prior to running the installer and to run the installer as "adminstrator".

There is no logical reason GB should not run in FS2004 under Win 7 unless it is being twarted by a permissions issue.

Yes, I know. I did not explain it correctly. I should have said, in addition to the ones without a texture folder, after installing Glacier Bay with the auto installer, if fails to load.
Also, the creation of a texture folder did allow the 'appearance' that it added. But, as with Glacier Bay, the scenery does not load. All the solutions I have seen so far, are for FSX and there is just enough difference in the problem that the FSX solution does not work for FS9. I have not given up, yet, but I am certainly wishing my FSX would hurry and get here. But, I know there will be problems with it as well; many of my aircraft will not work in it, as well as much of my scenery. It is, I think, a trade off to get a 64 bit system you lose some older addons that are just not compatible. Hopefully, there will be new and better replacements for those that do not work in 7. But, I for one, wish the computer industry would slow things down. But, I suspect, it will only get worse.

I'm afraid you'll have the same problem in FSX. It's a bug with W7 & not the version of FS. The fix from Opa's link actually works in WinXP. I tried it in both FSX & FS9.  For some reason clicking on a folder in the Scenery Library selection window in W7 appears to open it instead of selecting it. Clicking in a clear space in the window afterwards should complete the selection.

I suspect your problems might also be connected with the 64 bit version of W7 which further complicates matters. I'm sure this can be overcome. It's just a matter of finding a way round it.

I just installed FS2004 on my wife's new computer which has Win 7 - 64 bit as it's Operating System.

There were no problems at all installing FS2004 and then the Glacier Bay package.

This is how I did it:

1. Turned OFF UAC (user Account Control)

2. Installed FS2004 to a completely new folder named C:\FS Games.  I specifically did not want it to be under the default "Program Files" location.  Having it outside of "Program Files" ensures minimum problems with "permission" issues.

My path is therefore C:\FS Games\Flight Simulator 9

3. I then downloaded (from the MS site) and installed the update to Version 9.1. The update exe file was executed from the Flight Simulator folder - not from a temporary folder elsewhere - as per MS instructions.

4. I ran FS2004 one time to check everything out.

5. I downloaded the two part Glacier Bay scenery packages and unzipped them to individual temporary folders.

I ran the "a" exe first, then the "b" exe next (as per the instructions), and then ran the configuration utility. Running the configuration utility is required.

The proper entries were automatically made to the FS2004 scenery.cfg file - no manual activation was required - and the scenery displays beautifully for me.

It should work just as well for anyone with Win 7 - 64 bit if you follow the procedure I just used.

Hope that helps.

But I got it sorted yesterday by turning off UAC. When I did, I lost the ones that had activated before, but I simply activated them again. Voila, Eureka, (or your choice of apt statement), it works. There are still a few small things I dislike about Windows 7, or Widows 7 as Paul calls it, but I'm beginning to get accustomed to it.
