Even in the Flight Sims, Silicon Valley and the surrounding area, is an amazingly busy place for Aircraft. Lots of major Airports, and restricted airspace!
Very scary for light Aircraft!

Am I the only one to see this as a non story. TCAS does exactly what it is supposed to do, air traffic does exactly what it is supposed to do and the pilots do what they have been told.

Yes and no. There was clearly a violation committed here, as those aircraft should have never came within miles of each other. However, the media is reporting every incident, slip up, or whatever you will call it, that aviation has had recently.

How did this get leaked? Was it one of the pilots or what? Because I don't think anyone on the ground would've really been paying attention to the sky hard enough to see this close call, even then it would've only lasted a second.

Because it is being investigated, it becomes public knowledge. All you have to do is go to the NTSB website. That is why a lot of these incidents don't make headlines until weeks later, takes time to update the site.

Mmm, I sat on my hands (ouch!) for a few hours and had a think.
Yes and no*. Certainly a TCAS RA in the big scheme of things is a non event. However the circumstance of this one are of note - getting a descending RA at that height, although probably not dangerous as such, would be very "uncomfortable" (event though most are resolved in a couple of hundred feet), and, due to the configuration, weight, and power settings of the aircraft on departure, quite a manoeuvre - certain to scare the proverbial out of your pax within 30 seconds of takeoff!
I think the United captain summed it up perfectly to the controller:
"We need to have a talk"...
*unintentionally quoting Davysims!
