What are the pros and cons of download vs. CD other than the price difference?

I'll say my opinion. Usually the key number is written in the CD case, if not, you can put it in there. With a cd you can be more sure to get the complete download if you have slow internet connection. If you have a major crash it is easier to plug in a cd than surfing around for your download.
On the downside, there is shipping charges to pay, usually,
and it takes time to get delivery. Plus that updates get done on line anyway.
I still haven't gotten my UTX back because I lost the key #, so I have to go back to Flight One and get a new key. A bit of a pain in the neck.
I am interested in others opinions. Sometimes you can both download online and get the CD in the mail.  Smiley

Thanks Steve. Since I keep all my downloads in the original zip file on an outboard drive, while FS has the contents of that zip file on the main drive, I think I would be pretty safe to go the download route. Plus, I can always back up the downloads to a cd, double security. And in my case, cost is extremely important, which, coupled with all my computer problems, is the reason I have no payware in the first place. But, I am considering changing that, due, in part, to a small windfall. But I will have to be very selective and purcases will be few and far between. Right now, I'm considering Aerosoft's DHC-2 Beaver X, Wilco Tilt Rotor, and their Freght Dogs, which includes cargo airports on the west coast, Beech 18, and several Beaver cargo versions. I won't be getting all, just one, two at the most, and maybe scenery. But scenery will take a lot more thought. And I have yet to really look into other brands. When you have to be selective due to budget, you tend to go slower and more carefully.

If at all possible I try to obtain my Payware products delivered on CD or DVD.
The extra delivery cost is a mere £1 extra, and I always have them as back-up in case of a re-install or computer failure.

They avoid HUGE downloads, (take FS Global for example!), and they don't require a "lost" Registration key to get them working!.

Give me CD/DVD's every time... Smiley...!

Any Program downloads I have, I am always afraid of losing the program, the Key, and "game.exe"... Cry...!

The loss of my FS Navigator and LAGO FSE downloads would be a total disaster, and make the Flight Sim absolutely unplayable for me!... Shocked...!
(I have them both saved on a number of back-up CD's, and their Keys safely stored on paper!)... Smiley...!

Paul..... Smiley...!

My latest acquisition; REX for FS 2004; was delivered on CD from Australia at an extra cost of a mere £1...(took a week to arrive).

Dell Dimension 5000 BTX Tower. Win7 Home Edition, 32 Bit. Intel Pentium 4, dual 2.8 GHz. 2.5GB RAM, nVidia GF 9500GT 1GB. SATA 500GB + 80GB. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Micronet ADSL Modem only. Saitek Cyborg Evo Force. FS 2004 + FSX. Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower...Motor Bikes. Gas Cooker... and lots of musical instruments!.... ...!
Yamaha MO6,MM6,DX7,DX11,DX21,DX100,MK100,EMT10,PSR400,PSS780,Roland GW-8L v2,TR505,Casio MT-205,Korg CX3v2 dual manual,+ Leslie 760,M-Audio Prokeys88,KeyRig,Cubase,Keyfax4,Guitars,Orchestral,Baroque,Renaissance,Medieval Instruments.

Thanks Paul. I've been doing a little looking since my last post and am rethinking the issue, for similiar reasons. But at least one site mentioned $6+ US and that could be a problem considering my very limited budget. Having said all that, I am pretty much decided on the Aerosoft DHC-2 Beaver X as my first aircraft. I love Beavers, don't have what I consider to be a good one, and this one has 40 liveries! Smiley
Any suggestions as to scenery?

Also, just out of cuiosity (where the heck did Elmer Fudd come from?) Roll Eyes curiosity since my machine won't run it, which version of FSX would be best, if I had the machine to run it?

Sorry for taking so long to respond Steve. Sometimes I forget what I posted and where I posted it. Why am I here?  Roll Eyes Grin I sure miss the email notification, that no longer works.  Sad
Anyway thanks. It really boils down to cost. I would like to get gold but there are a couple of other things I want, so I am still debating with myself. It's really quite an argument.  Roll Eyes

If you have a broadband connection, go with the downloads.  FlightSim (most of the Aussie stuff) offers a DVD backup for a few bucks more.  This recent FTX PNW was over 4 Gb but they offered it in sections which were easily recompiled into the whole.  The Aerosoft Beaver is nice but not a whole lot better than the default FSX and, if even I can paint it, buy something else with the money not spent.  On the FSX game itself - I started with the economy version then found out real quick that many of these new FSX planes required 'Acceleration' so it's better to buy the version with that right from the get-go.  For myself, I like UT scenery products - especially Alaska however that ORBX is the coming thing - this PNW is super nice but pricey.

Thanks Dave, that is very helpful, though the debate is still in full swing. But I guess that may be a good thing, as in the past, I have gotten in too big a hurry and made some mistakes. I may still make a mistake, but at least I will have the satisfaction of knowing I took the time to think it through. Right now, the 'wait and see how FS9 runs on it' has a slight edge over 'go ahead and order Gold'.  Roll Eyes

And in case anyone is wondering, I'm still waiting.  Sad
Seems there was a communication error between FedEx  tracking terminology and my brain.  Embarrassed It was in fact loaded on a truck for delivery, but what I did not know, is that it will deliver tomorrow, as scheduled. Apparently, the Saturday crew go ahead and load the trucks for Monday. Hope it is a 'secure' compound. Don't really like the idea of my Alien sitting in a truck all weekend. I guess those day early deliveries I got from them in the past were just luck. Any way, it gives me a little more time to prepare. But this is the first experience I have had with FedEx that is less than satisfactory, and other than it sitting on the truck all weekend, mostly a matter of choice of wording on the tracking system. I still prefer them to UPS.
