Goodly morning all... Smiley

Wonderful shots Mitch...very nice.

The pictures of the old "Pig Boat" Consolidated Catalina/Canso/PBY5A brought back a few memories.  Put a lot of time in them.

The Catalina with the "Blisters" on the rear of the fuselage would fly several knots/mph faster than the one with "Dutch Doors" rather than "Blisters".   Smiley

We used to load everything through the opening that you see as a "Blister".  Lumber, canoes, outboard motors, 45 gallon oil drums, mail, boxes of food, passengers, just about everything that had to go north during the summer once the ice was gone as many locations had no runway.  During the winter we landed the Douglas DC3s with wheel/skis on the ice and carried the same type of supplies.

Aw...the good old days...nope do not miss them at all.   Grin

Again great shots... Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

The Neptune has been growing on me the last couple of weeks, helped by the fact that I'm currently building a 1/72 scalde model. Also bought a book, you may have seen in Leigh, its Neptune in Australian Service by Stewart Wilson. Wonderful insight into the working life of this aircraft and provides info on all the different systems used, specifications, interesting facts, history and some great pictures. This truly was a magnificent aircraft and could out-turn fighter aircraft of the time, it had great agility for its size. Love it. Cool Cool

There's a static Neptune sitting at the gate of my old base in Hawaii, crazy looking plane with jets and propellers haha!  I have never witnessed one that was still in service, must have been a site to see!

Thanks buddy. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of that Neptune, would be pretty handy?

You can understand why it needed auxiliary jet engines, its empty weight was 49,935lb, thanks to all its onboard equipment. In comparison, the L049 Constellation had an empty weight of 49,400lb and that's a considerably larger aircraft compared to the Neptune. Shocked

Part 3 is up now. Wink

Unfortunately I never snapped any shots of the static birds when I was stationed there, I wish I would have, they have some classics sitting there (F-8 Crusader, The Neptune, a Phantom II, and a C-1 Trader, amongst other various tanks and helos)
