Does any one know how to fix this?

...

This happens whenever the sim is set at 53fps or above with or without the FPS limiter.  I used to run at unlimited with no problems.  Eventually the entire landscape turns black.  If I run at 52fps or lower I don't have any problems.  The problem occurs with both stock and addon aircraft.  However, it manifests itself at a reduced rate with stock aircraft.  The only change I've made is the installation of GEX 1.09 though I don't know how that could be causing this.  I've posted this at the GEX forum as well but thought that maybe something else is going on.  My basic setup is:

E6600 2.4ghz
2 gig ram
GTS8800 using 185.85 driver

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am betting that between your FPS set so high, your scenery slider settings and the limitations of your CPU/GPU combo you run into graphics problems.

Any reason why you have your FPS set so high, most people think that you cannot tell the difference over 30FPS.  Thats what I have mine set to.

Trying setting your FPS to 30, if you have your scenery sliders set high turn them down, also if you have your AI traffic sliders set high turn them down.  Play with different combinations of the above and see what works best.

Like I said on the GEX forum, I too noticed performance degradation after 1.09, but all became well again after I defragged my disk.

Until now running at unlimited gave me the best/smoothest performance.  After defragging it still did the same thing so until I can upgrade I will just have to lower the FPS.

Thanks for the help.

The good news is that I fixed my problem.  The bad news is that I'm not exactly sure what was wrong.  With all of the changes that I've made to the sim and with various addons that I had, both payware and freeware, my installation of FSX was corrupted.  In attempting to fix it by modifying various settings it only got worse.  It was so bad I was beginning to suspect a hardware problem.  So I decided to un-install everything FSX related and start from scratch.  It took the better part of 3 days to re-install everything but I finally got it working fairly well.  The 2 tweaks I changed were TBM and Bufferpools.  TBM is now set at the default of 40 and I removed bufferpools all together.  Before GEX 1.09 BP was set at 35000000.  With GEX 1.09 that setting crashed the sim.  By taking it out the sim ran fine.  I suspect that may have been my original problem but by taking a shotgun approach, vs. a laser beam approach, at problem solving I probably hosed the installation.
