I've spent 3 hrs placing objects around the 3 runway WW2 airfield I'm cobbling together.   I ended a check flight to see how it all looks, but when starting FS9 again after a 20 minute break, for another check flight the runways have vanished.  I took off & looked back they started to apprear. They slowly vanished on getting closer when landing.  I'm assuming a graphics problem but that's a guess.  Can anyone hazard what it might, be along with a solution?  I've checked other airports & they seem OK.  I'm using Afcad 2.21 & Instant Scenery & save afcad changes frequently.  Ummm.....?

I don't use Afcad much, (at all really) but it sounds like it may be an elevation issue? Any mesh installed?

If this is a "new" airport (where none existed in FS2004 before) the usual first step is to flatten the area - i.e. the entire airport property area.  Many of us use FSTFlatten for this purpose.  You then are building on elevations which are consistant and should no have issues with runways dissapearing.

The second step might include creating an exclude for the same area (or several excludes as might be needed) to get rid of unwanted buildings and trees etc..  It is important to have your autogen and scenery complexity sliders set at maximum so you can see everything the sim might display and can exclude all of it.

After the area has been so prepared, then one can add runways and taxiways and parking etc..

At least that is the way I approach such a project.

Hope that helps.   Smiley

Opa, I second your thought.

Whenever any new major 'construction' job starts, you always see land clearning (excluding), and bull dozers (FSFlatten), getting the ground to a precise level.  That is unless you want that retainage pond in a certain place.. but then you can add that with AFCAD.

I too, use Excbuilderv2, and FSFlatten, before I start up AFCAD for parking and Abacus EZ-Scenery for buildings.

Oh dear....I posted after 30 mins of playing around in sheer frustration but it's oeuf sur mon visage  Shocked

Yes it's a new one & all's gone quite well until this problem appeared.   Thanks for the flatten tip (I'll get for further jobs) but you're right - it's an elevation issue.  I redid the tower view altitude & it wouldn't take.   I noticed the airport reference point elevation was 0 so changed it to the value I saw in Map.......I didn't put 2 & 2 together.  I've changed the reference point value back to 0 & the runways are visible.    Roll Eyes
