I want to remove some trees & am trying to use ExcBuilder program but it says it needs Msstdfmt.dll.  This file was sent to me from a member & I've put it in C:\WINDOWS\system32 as advised but ExcBuilder still won't work.

I've seen that I should do the following: "simply take the dll from the download and paste it in your system 32 folder then go start, run and then typing C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe Msstdfmt.dll" which I've done but all I get is an error message saying the module failed to load as it couldn't be found.   Well, it's in the System32 folder.....can someone tell me what I should do now?   I've been at this hours & feel at my wit's end.... Huh

Since placing the .dll, have you tried to run Excbuilder?

What OS are you using?

cheers,

I've put it in System32 & did as my post says  Huh

The file may not be properly registered on your system.....

With the file, Msstdfmt.dll, in your C:\Windows\System32\ folder, go to Start>Run and type or paste the following in the 'open' line.

regsrv32.exe C:\Windows\System32\Msstdfmt.dll

When adding such dll files you normally need to "register" them in the registry also.  Just putting them in your System32 folder is seldom enough.

To do that follow these steps:
1. Press Start and select Run
2. Type CMD and press Enter
3. Type regsvr32 "filename".dll and press Enter

Do NOT use the quotation marks -

The syntax for your file would look like this:

regsvr32 MSSTDFMT.DLL

Note: there is a space between 2 and M

This of course assumes that you spelled the name of dll correctly in your post. (MSSTDFMT)

See if that solves the problem.

Thanks Dave.  I get "Windows cannot find regsv32.exe."

I tried that Opa but got "the module may not be compatible with" my version of Windows. " Check to see if it's compatible with an x86 (32bit) or x64 (64 bit version of regsvr32.exe."

This might just as well in Martian.......all I know is I have Vista 64.  Just what & how do I check?!

Do you have a subfolder named C:\Windows\SysWOW64 ??

If so, try placing a copy of MSSTDFMT.DLL  in that folder.

I also did a little Google research and find that this dll and many others which are shipped with XP apparently were not shipped with Vista and are difficult to install.

Keep us posted.

That doesn't work.
I surfed & found this http://extensionfile.net/information/windows-registry which has "Like any other executable in Windows, the registry can be accessed by using the Run box and issuing the regedit.exe or regedt32.exe command."   I typed 'regedit.exe' & got the Registry Editor window, with 5 HKEY headings......does this help?

NO - Unless you know exactly what you are doing you should never attempt a manual edit of the registry.

Try registering it again by using this syntax:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe msstdfmt.dll

Before doing all that, I would suggest turning off UAC (User Acciunt Control) so your efforts will not be blocked by the Vista "security" shield.

Happy to hear you got it all sorted out.

If your project is RAF related, Ted Andrews has a couple of librarys of old RAF hangars and control towers etc. which can be easily placed with Instant Scenery.  They might dress up your airport project very nicely.

I believe you have my e-mail address so if you need any help with IS, feel free to contact me directly.

Happy Designing!   Tongue

PS - It probably would be a good idea to close out the threads in the forums at other sites where you posed essentially the same question.
