Hey, how many people are here from the Canada, Ottawa or are knowledgeable enough with tracking planes down?

I saw a huge plane take off from the YOW (CYOW - or as known in flight sim) Airport as it left a beautiful wake in the clouds. I saw air currents going off the tip of the tail and the top of the wings as it left a nice open line in the thin cloud cover. I could make out it was a double decker, possibly painted grey, and had a downward pointed red arrow on front right. It was loud so I assume it could of been an A380. The time was about 3:30 pm to 3:40pm Eastern.

Sadly I didn't take a picture of it and am cursing for not having my camera with me at the time to take a picture of it.

I'm going to go back to checking Google and any Ottawa airport information.

Flight Aware says the largest thing that went out anywhere near that time was an A319.

I'm told the A380 is significantly quieter than the 747.

Hmm, odd....I know that my eyes didn't lie to me as I did see it for a good minute or two before it vanished into the bright sun, towards the (north)west. I'm used to seeing planes as big as the 777-300er's to as small as Cessna's flying over head. Every now and again I would see some Canadian F## or Military transports.

A319...tiny plane.

*shrugs* Donno then. I'm simply guessing as this one was loud when ascending into the sky.

Are you sure it came out of CYOW? Are there any other nearby airports?

I'm pretty sure as it probably took off using the Runway 14-32 heading north and probably turned West. It was either heading towards Vancouver or Toronto direction, most likely to/around Toronto. CYOW is the only airport where it could of possibly came out of, or made a touch and go.

Either that or it could of used the slightly smaller Runway 7-25. Thats unlikely as I used an Air Canada 777-300ER in FSX and it would of appeared further from where I saw it from.

Other airports in the area:
- Rockliffe airport (Only holds Cessna or mini transport sized prop planes.)
- Gatineau Airport (unaware, but I'm assuming small passenger planes and is far North or East - Opposite side of the river.)
- Carp Airport (Small cargo planes?)

I'm pretty sure the wings were under the belly and not on top. I didn't see any rudders on the top of the tail and can easily recall that as I saw trails of clouds going off the tip.

Wouldn't be on Flightaware? Damn Sad. Any pictures or paint scheme archives we can go through?

About the same sounds I heard from :50-1:23

Apparently a U.S. Air Force C-17 landed in YOW on February 16:

What you heard might have been its departure back to the U.S.?!
