I know its still early, but it is starting to look like suicide by airplane, and vengence on the IRS at the same time.

Yes, apparenty a suicide note has surfaced.  I'm reading it now and it sounds like hes all over the place.  No real delusions other than the suicidal intent and revenge itself, he seems to be just expressing grievances over everything.  I am waiting for investigators to look at the full scope of his situation involving the IRS and debts to see if he was desparate or delusional.

Sad indeed

Sad indeed that those with grievances take it out on innocent people.  Don't know any details yet, I just saw this on Yahoo news, but am curious as to why.  We'll see, maybe.

Austin PD admonished the news media for publishing non-official stuff, like the suicide note. Apparently someone found it on a blog?
You got a link to either a new site or the blog ( which will likely get shut down soon anyway) with the note?
EDIT-- Never mind, found it.
There was an earlier report that the plane was stolen,  but APD said no. Also I heard both Piper and Cirrus as the type.

His note chronicles his life and how society has made it miserable.  There is no one group of people responsible in his eyes.  He may make valid points in what is wrong with the world, but he is flawed in thinking that attempted murder and suicide are justified and that he is clean of any wrongdoing in his life.

It was a PA-28.

The "news" agencies pull sources from wherever they can like blogs and they were rightfully scorned.  The link to the website where I found the note no longer works, but I copied it into Word as I figured that would happen.  It is 6 pages long, and I find it hard to believe someone could have written it in the time from when he crashed to when I found it.  It has apparently been confirmed that he intentionally flew the airplane into the building after setting his house on fire.

and the aircraft was NOT stolen as was reported.  It was registered to him under N2889D

Yeah, I saw the registration.  I found and pulled a copy of the letter on PDF format.  Wow. All over the place does not begin to cover it.

Dammit!!!  Angry
This is not good for GA... not to mention the injuries and damage. Thank goodness he only killed himself- the only upside to this event.

I mentioned in the Flightaware forum that the news first refers to him as "the pilot" and we must consider what we represent when we fly.

You should have been watching CNN earlier, it was a joke.  They were talking about how there are security gaps and how "anyone" could do this.  They also mention a psychological evals alongside the medical.  This would catch next to 0% of pilot suicides.  This is not a pilot issue, this is a suicide issue.  We need to help people recognize warning signs and prevent suicides, instead of making the cost of flying higher.  The current state of mental health in America is sad, maybe we could work on that while we're at it.

Sigh... "anyone" could assault a federal office with a gun, or a bomb... but if they took a taxi there, there would be no hue and cry about "those little taxicabs"...  and historically, light planes crashed intentionally into buildings have done less harm than wackos with guns or bombs.

Fear-mongering needs to feed, naturally, on fear... and if people are unfamiliar with something, it's easier to make them afraid.

I was watching Fox (don't start a debate), and they couldn't stress enough that it was only one man, and that the same thing could've happened with a car. Of course, it probably helped that one of the anchors was a pilot.

That's some kind of miracle! I'm sure having a pilot on the set helped with that.

The police said in their first press conference that it was an isolated incident and not connected to anything.  It doesn't take a genious, a pilot, or a news anchor to see it was one troubled person.  What I don't get is when they still maintain it was something else Huh

The media isn't worried about the facts, just the scare factor.  Just like how at first the story was about a guy in a stolen Cirrus.  Then it slowly came out that it was his airplane.
