Hi All.
I don't often fly Airliners but feel like a challenge so could anyone recomend an Airliner with a working FMC.
It would be really lovely if it were a B727 but beggars can't be chosers.
Thanks in advance.

If you really fancy a challenge Fozz try buying one of those little battery powered radio controlled Helicopters which you can fly around the house (in theory.)
Whats really anoying is they have little girls in the shops to demonstrate them and they are all but impossible to fly! Trust me, I got one for Christmas. The wife thought it might help with my mid-life crisis.

I had it a few years back, and my poor tired old rig just didnt have the.......knackers
to run it smoothly, and I didnt have the time available to learn how to program the damn thing
But I remember being impressed with the way it looked, and I've read a few things about it being quite good.....seems to me like a good way to learn about FMC's without shelling out.
Give it a try, it's available here at simv somewhere

Hi Mr Beeblebrox.
There are only a very few freeware FMCs out there, which you can install into any airliner. The first is the vasFMC which for me is too durn complicated! The other one is much simpler, although it's in Alpha form and development was discontinued in 2007. VNAV is a little hairy (you can't switch it off!) but it works fine in LNAV though. Being alpha, there is no manual to speak of but it's not difficult to work out. It's the Mirage FMC and is here (
http://mirage.orz.ne.jp/fsdev/modules/wfdownloads/
), comprising the FMC, a MFD-replacement gauge and activation toggles.
If you're prepared to work at it, it's a bit of fun...

Hi Mr Beeblebrox...
Well, how very formal
I think I'll have a lay down in a dark room with a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster before I attempt this FMC malarky. Sounds like hard work.
Best wishes, and thanks for all the fish.

Just a quick update. I have now recovered from the Gargleblasters and have downloaded and installed the iFly 747 complete with FMC, TCAS etc.
For someone who usually flies vintage aircraft this is going to be a steep learning curve.
Watch this space!
Thanks to all who replied.

Actually, Zaphod, I cheated...
I've used the Simavionics ISG1 (payware but not expensive) FMC suite for a while now, which is very good and flexible; I have it installed in most of my jetliners of a ... certain age. The older ones have the CIVA INS.

Hi Rom..
My first impressions after only a brief time trying the aircraft is that it is a very complex piece of kit, even without the FMC!
I have used the Auto pilot on the default 747 with a fair deal of sucess but even this seems much more complex on the ifly. To fully appreciete this plane will require a lot of study of the supplied documentation which I'm sure would be worth while but very time consuming.
It is a very nice looking rendition and I particularly like the Cathay Pacific texture (CX). One small thing I have noticed is that the animation of the spoiler/aileron combination during steep turns does not appear to be modelled correctly, but this is a small thing and it's incredible that a plane of this quality is freeware (IMHO).
Best.
