I have been sucked into this game and now want to make the step from just a joystick to now a throttle box.  Does anyone have a prefrence?  I saw the Saitek X52, and Logitech G940.  Both look great, each have stong points.  The Saitek X65F looks nice, however the price tag is a bit much for my pocket.  Does anyone know of a place to buy just the throttle box?

I have Windows 7 and am using FSX.

Thanks for you input...

Been using an X52 for over a year and it's not bad.  The thing that none of them can duplicate is the airflow over the control surfaces and the feel of resistance created as each surface is deflected into that airflow.  If you haven't already, strongly consider rudder pedals.  As you approach the ground and minimal directional inputs are required, using the ailerons or the silly twist rudder becomes an exercise in overcontrol and futility.

I have the Saitek X52 Pro and the Saitek Rudder pedals and I love them!! Smiley

It's not the top dog in flight sticks anymore, but it's a very good 'bang for your buck'.

Cheers

if i might offer a suggestion... granted it may be a bit pricey at first but leave plenty of growing room....

Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System - http://store.gameshark.net/PRO_Flight_Yoke_System_by_Saitek/3273/176

Throttle Quadrant - http://store.gameshark.net/PRO_Flight_Throttle_Quadrant_by_Saitek/3276/176

then save up for the ProFlight Switches - http://store.gameshark.net/Pro_Flight_Switch_Panel_by_Saitek/3395/176

or the Radio Panel - http://store.gameshark.net/PRO_Flight_Radio_Panel_by_Saitek/4540/176

stack them all together for the ULTIMATE flight yoke/switches/radio set up anywhere.   Then throw in some rudder pedals and you will be 1/4 of the way to your new DIY Home Simulator Cockpit!!   -- just dont forget your headphones.. http://store.gameshark.net/Pro_Flight_Headset_by_Saitek/3398/176

Just buy 1 piece at a time, and in no time you will have a full set up ready to fly anything!!

The "ultimate" stuff is made for the simpit type market...... and unfortunately is in a completely different price bracket.  Some stuff is basically indistingusihable in look, scale, and feel from the real items.

best,

"Enthusiastic" Flight Simming can cost an arm and a leg in various Hardware bits and pieces!.... Shocked...!

...but I must admit, I have being enjoying myself daily for the past 15+ years using my simple, low-cost (~£30), Twist Joysticks with Throttle, from various Manufacturers, in conjunction with various Keyboard presses... Kiss...!
They have all satisfied my needs for having "Fun" in the Simulator, and enjoying the scenery, (and education), around the World, without taking it too seriously, and remembering that is only a "Game...ooops!... Smiley...", and nothing like the real thing, up in the air, however much money we throw at it!... Grin...!

Every now an again we have to switch our brains back into gear, and come back down to earth/reality...and start paying the household bills instead!.... Wink... Grin....!

P.S. ...I haven't purchased a Kalashnikov assault rifle for use in "Command and Conquer" yet......and that Challenger Tank would take up far too much space in my Living Room...and spoil my carpet!

Agreed! I just got the system, yoke and throttle quad...no pedals yet  Wink , and it changed the whole flying-simming experience for me. I have several sticks, but it wasn't realistic enough, unless your in an Airbus or fighter aircraft, then the stick is "normal".
