A little insight into how breaking parts work in CFS2 goes a long way toward understanding some of the issues we encounter with this feature.

First, in designing a model with breaking parts, each and every part of the aircraft must be 'tagged' with a visibility condition.  All of this must be done by the designer who creates the MDL.   (Yes, it can get complicated.)

If a single tag is overlooked, no breaking parts will work.  Angry

The Second area of concern is the DP file itself.  In the Effects section of the DP, the part that is to break and the when of the breaking is defined.

[EFFECTS.12]
; System = Port Wing Structure
Location = -4.4,0.74,-0.29
effect.0=10,LIBRARY,fx_smkpuff_s,
effect.1=30,LIBRARY,fx_intsmoke,
effect.2=60,LIBRARY,fx_wingfire,
effect.3=95,LIBRARY,fx_airexpl_s,
effect.4=100,BREAK,,

In the excerpt from a DP above, for this part (wing) to BREAK, the number assigned to this part must appear between the commas after the word BREAK.  Without the correct number, no break can occur.  Shocked

If the correct number is inserted, but this particular part has not been properly tagged within the model file, then the SIM cannot break the part, AND the SIM's response can be to BREAK every part....thus the phenomenon known as the Ghost Plane, or seeing an entire aircraft break away from the original.  Shocked

If you have an aircraft that displays the 'Ghost Plane', you can correct the condition by simply removing each and every number following the word BREAK between the two commas in the EFFECTS section of the DP...leave the commas in place.  Then resave the DP file and delete the CDP file as well.   No more ghosts.  Cool

Thanks, Tom ... learning a little more each and every day.  By the time I get to my second lifetime ... I just might actually know something!
