If you can put the following when you post the tour please:

"As you may have noticed, I do not have addon scenery recommendations for this route. I have noted the fact that the majority of users that I am aware of that fly these tours are not interested in addon scenery for these trips, so I will not go through the effort. If you are interested in using freeware addon scenery with this trip, private message me and I will assist you in finding the best stuff available. I can no longer guarantee that there is custom scenery for every airport on this tour, but there definitely are a few destinations here that are supported.

I hope you have enjoyed both the north and south island tours of New Zealand that I have created!
If you are interested in providing comments or criticism on these routes, feel free to contact me. If you have serious suggestions for future tours, I encourage you to post them in the multiplayer forum area, or consult with tour uploader and hoplist technician ShaneG. If you want, you can talk to me about it too, but Shane is the one who actually uploads the hoplist to the multiplayer server and does the official announcements.

Have fun,
-SeanTK"

Thanks for doing the grunt work with getting them on the server, Shane!

-Sean

This one was a lot of fun to create!  Smiley

Note to anybody who flies this. If you use the mesh and and addon airports, I would suggest loading up the airport to take a peek at it before you do the actual flight. I think there might be a few airports that need the following adjustment:

Copy the AFCAD file from the airport's scenery folder into the scenery/world/scenery folder.

You will then have 2 AFCADs, one present in the addon scenery area with the actual airport's folder entry, and another exact same one in the world/scenery folder.

That seems to resolve some issues of the problem airports sitting on the mesh.

I am pretty sure Dannevirk, Whakatane, and Opotiki needs this, but I am unsure of some of the other smaller ones. I know Wellington, Auckland, Tauranga, and Hamilton do not need the fix.

Easy, quick fix resulting in much more enjoyable arrivals and departures.

I cannot emphasize enough my recommendation for the use of at least the VOZ North textures, along with the landclass and mesh. If you want to limit your addon consumption, at least get those three. It makes an enormous difference when flying in New Zealand, and looks quite impressive.

The addon airports are all very good quality, and most use custom objects to accurately depict the fields. My personal favorites include Wellington, Napier, Taupo, and payware Rotorua & Tauranga.

This tour is designed around FS2004, due to the availability of many custom addons for the country of New Zealand, and the distinct lack of good addons for this region that work with the FSX platform.

The mesh, landclass, and possibly a few airports may work in FSX, but once again, this is unsupported.

Regarding the "textures" specifically, I believe you are referencing my recommendation for VOZ "North". Unfortunately, this freeware addon does not work with FSX to the best of my knowledge.

I understand that the nature of this tour may alienate some that are stuck with FSX, but I wanted to try to make this tour as realistic as possible, and unfortunately, that desire can only be accomplished with the abundance of FS2004 New Zealand items at this time.
I know that there are some elements of FSX that are outstanding, but I have realized that outside of parts of the US, Australia, and some western European countries, FS2004 is the way to go until the addon community catches up in the coming years.

It never hurts to have both sims on your system!  Wink

with 5 hops left in the tour... whats going to be next??? hehe?? I tend to do about 7-9 hops at a time.  Right now Im sitting at NZTG giving my variety of planes a much needed rest.

Planes I fly tonight.. Beech D18S amphib, F14, P51, Beech C-45G.

Nice area, but I should have gotten the downloads. Oh well, better FPS without them.

I'll be waiting on the Waikato Carrier at the end for the next trip.

Next tour will be on the South Island of New Zealand. I just need to:

1. Remember to create it for Shane.

2. Find time in my schedule to create it.

After this, I have no idea where the next one would be, although I have a few ideas of my own for possible consideration in the future.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was considering the following after the South Island of NZ:

-Philippines

-Northern Europe/Scandinavia (would basically ring around the coast beginning with northern Netherlands and gradually wrapping around the waterway eastward before heading back to the southern coast of Norway.)

-Mediterranean (coastal circuit covering the area around the Mediterranean)

-Alaska (with significant portion of it in the Aleutian islands)

-Coast of South America (coastal flight covering the edge of the entire continent)

-Black Sea tour (coastal covering many towns around the Black Sea)

I am trying to pick spots with a variety of scenery attributes that are noticable on a default installation. If I create future tours I will NOT be going through the trouble of suggesting addon scenery for the tour, since no-one seems to use it, and I felt like I wasted the effort.
Luckily the current New Zealand series still lends itself well to default installations, but it was mainly produced around freeware addon scenery availability. I will not be basing future tours on that now.

For any future tours created by me, if you want addon scenery recommendations, just PM me. This policy will be in place beginning with the upcoming New Zealand South Island tour.

UPDATE: I just sent my hoplist for the south island to Shane, so hopefully we can expect it on the forums in the coming days. Have fun.

We've done that Tour courtesy of Shane, a while ago, covering the whole Coast, Sean..Wink..!

I didn't install all the Scenery for the NZ North Island because my add-on Library is already overloaded with all my Scenery for California...

...but I did install the Scenery Mesh and Land Class for the NZ North Island Tour, which was handy, (in addition to my VOZ and FS Global)...Wink...!

Ah, thanks Paul. I suspected we did that a while ago, but could not remember for sure!

It's understandable that some won't install the scenery. I'm just making it known that I'm not bothering with it unless someone wants it.  Wink

The task continues to find locations that look great in the default world.

I'm liking the Alaska idea. Smiley

So many different addons available for both sims, and even the default country side looks good up there, and even better when just a simple mesh is added in.

We've had some great multiplayer flights up there in the past.  Cool

The real world weather conditions up there would definately be interesting during a tour.
It seems like there is actually substantial interest in an AK trip, so I suppose I'll start generating one sometime within the next week.  Wink

If nothing else, Paul could give us lessons on the proper usage of carb heat.  Wink

I never paid attention to it until he pointed it out, and now I find my self fiddling with it at times.

Its always been a big disappointment that the effects of Carburettor Icing are not represented at all in the various Flight Sims..... Cry...!
The effects of Pitot Tube Icing are immediately noticeable by the failure of the Air Speed Indicator and other air driven Instruments, .......but not Carb Icing!

I still regularly apply Carburettor Heat as instructed in the Aircraft Owners Flight Manual....even though it has no effect in the Flight Sim... Wink...!

Knowledge of its correct application and use comes in handy during real flights!

I just created a VERY long tour for you guys with over 120 unique destinations! Shane's going to be really angry when he has to create this one!  Grin

Don't expect this tour for quite a few weeks yet, but when it is up, you guys are going to be busy for quite a while.

Awesome. You did that really fast! How does the creation of this actually work? Did you just pick the destinations then Shane figures out how to add them?

For this one I basically browsed the FS map for a while, noted the types of terrain in the region, and picked airports that are in or near the interesting terrain.

I also made sure to cover some famous destinations as well, such as the Denali region of Alaska.

I tried to make a lot of the routes in Alaska challenging this time!
Quite a few of the airfields are either in the mountains, or you have to cross mountains to get to them. I did this without any regard to addon scenery, and based it purely on what the FS map was showing me. I didn't even test fly any routes so the level of challenge will be a surprise for all of us.
I think you guys are going to have a lot of fun with this one, especially when trying to get into some of these airfields that are tucked into the valleys, even in good weather. Of course, in this region, real world weather is almost a requirement!  Grin Wink

As far as actual implementation goes. I craft the route, give my route to Shane (airport names or ICAO codes in the proper order), and he enters it into the server's hoplist. With a little over 120 unique airports, he's going to be pretty busy, and I would not expect this trip to be up for a while.

Hopefully the New Zealand South Island one will be up within the next few days. That one was only a dozen or so unique destinations.

And I guess I'll tell you guys now.............

The route starts on the north coast of Alaska, up near the north pole, and gradually, after many stops and criss-crossing of Alaska and the aleutians,  goes down to Seattle, then up to Kelowna, Canada. It's basically a Pacific Northwest tour, with the focus being on Alaska. I would say that around 85% of the hops are in Alaska, with the remaining 15% in Canada and Washington state.

Glad you're enjoying it! The New Zealand South Island tour is pretty short due to the general lack of airfields on the island, but it's nice. Just counted it up, and there are 14 unique airfields for that one. (Unique first departure field, with 13 unique destinations.)

For the Pacific Northwest one, I gave Shane the route in terms of airfield names only, and unless he wants me to do it for him, he'll have to look up the airport codes for implementation into the server this time.
It's kind of an insurance policy to make sure that I don't have any extra scenery that I don't know about that may not be default and not in the game, and so he can verify the locations and route and isn't blindly typing the codes in. This ensures that we get a fully working, feasible route with no accidental hoplist entries referencing airfields thousands of miles away due to a typo.

Once again, do not expect the Pacific Northwest tour to be ready to go in the server for quite a while yet, due to the workload involved in implementing it. Creating the route before server implementation is only half the battle.

The South Island part of the tour has been added.

To connect it with the North Island tour, required a rather long (260nm) flight from Auckland to Wellington.  Not too bad if you're taking a jet, but it will take you a little while in a small prop.  Wink

Thanks again to Sean for putting this all together.  Smiley

OMG that Auckland to Wellington (hop 19) was HORRIBLE!!!!! I was running FSPassengers and ended up having to just abort the flight and then use the map and slew to get close to the airport.  I have been sitting here for well over 3 hours and I was still nowhere close.

the reason why it was taking me so long was because I was attempting the leg in a Cessna 172.   As I said, I was running FSP, and currently I am still a C0.  I need 5 more MINUTES to make it to C1 lol!!

oh well, ill get em tomorrow.

Captain Sensible here, noting the distance from Auckland to Wellington (260 nm) on my FS Navigator Flight Plan, decided to get my mate Ginger to ferry my Beech Baron 58 to Wellington, whilst I flew my Speedy North American F86 (General Aviation Specification) for the long hop...

....took me just over 1/2 an hour from threshold to threshold... Smiley...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004 .....and a nippy F86!... Cool...!

...... Smiley....!

Hi to you all here at Simviation.

I am unable to connect to FSHost to join up online at this time. But I want to thank you for posting the airport lists for both the north and south New Zealand hops.

I used to fly regular online with FsHost about 2 years ago with FS02. I reinstalled the game last week and have begun setting up things (which really never ends).

I have flown the fist leg with a Cessna 310 and had to do a fly over at Masterton, as I was coming in way to fast.

I switched to a Cessna 177RG for the second leg. That worked out much better at the Dannevirke runway which is even smaller.

Again thanks for sharing your hop ideas here, they make the sim more interesting.

Welcome to Simviation!

Feel free to formally introduce yourself in the "Pilot's Lounge".

Glad that you are enjoying the hoplist. A new one will hopefully be up in the coming weeks in a new area, as this one is becoming quite dated.

...the thing that worries me, is that Alaska is as "cool?" as it gets!... Shocked....!

Probably enough to freeze my "carburettors" off!.... Embarrassed...!

Its going to be quite a temperature shock for me, travelling from Sunny California!

Paul...I hate the "cold"....affecting my "Carburettors"!.... Embarrassed... Wink... Grin...!

I watch "Ice Pilots" (Buffalo Airways), on the History Channel every week, and it always amazes me that Folks choose to live, and work, in such cold, inhospitable places! (Canada North West Territory)... Shocked...!
