Hello at all.
I`m new in this Forum,German and 74 years old.
But my brain works fine.
I`m able to make all I need for FS9.
Gmax and FSDS are without secrets.
Often I make new airports for myself.
I`m a friend of special aircrafts.
My problem is to fill special airports with special
parking aircrafts.
Ok, I can make it myself but I think that`s crazy.
Here are a lot of aircrafts,I would like them.
I know the way to let them as static in cfg and then reserved parking places
in AFCAD and Ai.
But this is a long long way to do that.
I think there is the easier way.
FSDS convert the modell in xml and bgl.
Max convert the Modell in xml and mdl.
I make a flying Modell at first without all animations
and special things for flying aircrafts.
Convert to the 2 lines xml and bgl.
save it and then I make the animations.
So I get both.
Is it crazy to wish that from other developer
to add this two lines ???
There is another wrong thing.
The bmp names.
There are developer,making static aircrafts.
Mostly for FSDS ( ez library ).
Aircrafts has 1 Folder within all other folders.
Static donīt accept this.
Textures must be in the texturfolder for all objects.
(Addon Scenery / Texture )
If I download different static aircrafts,it don`t work
because the different textures has all the same name.
fuse.bmp,wing.bmp and so on.
There must be different named for each aircraft.
The way over FS library has the same negative result.
So I must rename all textures and
new lay on the different parts.
A lot of unnecessary work.
What do you think?
Is there something wrong in my mind? :-D

Hello.
Thanks that you would help me.
But the way with AI is unecessary complicated.
If I have the bgl for FSDS
or Xml and mdl for Gmax
( Itīs not necessary that they move themself in the scenery.)
I can set these files as staticobject in less then 5 minutes where ever I want in the scenery, without any trouble.
Itīs so easy with FSDS.
Start FS9 into the airport,I want.
Key Y and move to the place where the static shoud be.
Key alt and select in the menue FSDS.
A list of all static objects appears.
Choose my object,
It appears in the scenery.
Save.
Done. :-D
Later if I want no more the staic in the scenery
itīs the same easy way to delete.
I can set the stacic exactly.
Distance,alt,heading,scale with sliders.
Specialy I see what is going on,while I set the static.
Thatīs not possible with RWY12 or AI.
No surprises if I start FS again.
No trouble with AI.

Hello.
I downloaded the Antonov AN 225-210, but
get no sound.
In the sound cfg is something wrong.
It must be correct
[fltsim]
alias=b737-400\sound.
With minus instead shift minus (alias=b737_400\sound.Wrong )

You don't say which An 225 this is.
The sound is aliased to the folder name of the aircraft you wish to use the sound from. The folder name of the FS9 default Boeing 737 is b737_400 so alias=b737_400\sound is correct.

Hallo, Hagar
What you wrote is usually correct.
So I did it install at first.
No sound.
And now the surprise.
My FS9/Aircraft/B737_400/aircraft.cfg
[fltsim.0]
title=Boeing 737-400
sim=Boeing737-400
I was surprised myself
So it`s in my original FS9
and only as I wrote it,the Antonov works with my FS9.
I`m interesting to clear that.
What do you think.
Is in my folder the aircraft.cfg wrong or is it an
update?
The date is 16.12.2006.
My B737_400 works correctly.
I think the first look from the link is to the aircraft.cfg
second to the sound?
May be you have a look in your folder ?

Hi nandi. As I said earlier the panel and/or sound are aliased to the folder name of the slave aircraft. The Aircraft.cfg entries have nothing to do with it. Aliasing the sound.cfg of 3rd party jet aircraft to the default b737_400 is very common & goes right back to FS98.
Unless it's different in the German version of FS9 I can only suppose that you've changed the folder name of your FS9 default Boeing 737 to 737-400.

Hello Hagar.
Excactly NO.
I never change names because the path is no more correct and you know yourself what`s then going on.
I think I try it.
The B737_400 aircraftcfg. with shiftminus and see if the
B737 works.
If yes I change it also in the Antonovlink.
So that all will be correct.
Say never, never.

Please don't change those Aircraft.cfg entries or you'll mess up your 737. The title= line is the name recognised by AI traffic. The sim= line points it at the AIR file in use - Boeing737-400.air
The aliased sound.cfg is pointed at the b737_400\Sound folder NOT the Aircraft.cfg.

Hello Hagar.
Thanks.Really I forgot the AI.
I let it all, as it is.
Both aircrafts works fine.
Why should I change it.
Another case.
I downloaded Cessna 310.
The aircraft is bigger than big.
I think there is no way to change (scale ) it ?

I tried the An 225 posted here
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004jets103.htm
Sound.cfg is aliased to b737_400\sound & all works as advertised.
No idea what the problem is with that Cessna 310. Where did you get it?

Hello Fr.Bill
I think there was a mishmash between feet and meter.
If the developer has had the data from a papersketch with feet data and build it
with meters you get the shown big aircraft.
If the developer starts from a small airfield without other aircrafts beside
he don`t notice the mistake.
Nothing is impossible.
I try to find this download oncemore and if I find it, you get the link

Actually, the problem is the result of folks who don't read instructions, or at best don't understand them properly.
In both Max and GMax, the "System Unit Scale"
MUST
be set to "1 Unit = 1 Meter." This defines how the mesh will be
re-scaled
during the Export process. It has nothing whatever to do with the "units of measurement" that the modeler will use
in Max or GMax,
which are set in another part of the configuration, and may be metric or decimal, with a number of variations for each.

Hello FR.Bill.
Sorry if my English is so bad, that you don`t understand what I mean.
I know developers, they have books with aircraftsdrawings in it.
The information is in feet.
Before anything doing in GMax with meters it is important to scale, convert,
the data from feet in the book to meters for Gmax in your mind.
Example.
I`m tire but start GMax.
Select cube.
Have a look in my book.
Length 15
Write in GMax 15.
Boiiiing.
It must be 5.
If not, you get the bigger one.
I hope you can follow me ?

No, you don't have to do any mental arithmetic!!
YOU can simply tell GMax that you wish to
model
in one of the following systems, using
Customize/Units Setup
:
Quote:
US Standard
Decimal Inches
Fractional Feet
Decimal Feet
Feet with Fractional Inches
Feet with Decimal Inches
Metric
Centimeters
Meters
Kilometers
However! Customize/Preference Settings/System Unit Scale must
always
be:
Quote:
1 Unit = 1 Meter
This last setting is
only
used during the Export process so that the conversion from your Units Setup will be
automatically
rescaled to the Flightsim's 1 Unit = 1 Meter requirement...

Hello Fr.Bill.
I never worked with feet.
I`m always ready to learn.
Usually at first before begining to make a model is to set the unit to meter.
I don`t know, how the program knows the data are feet ?
Before beginning at first set unit to feet.
If the model is ready, before converting to bgl the unit must set to meter.
Is that the correct way?
What happen I forgot the unit change?

Hi Nandi,
What I normally do is that I use an external converter to convert feet to meter, and as FR Bill said, you set up your Gmax as 1unit =1meter. Thus for example you want to draw a box of 20ft x 20ft x 20 ft, I use an external convertor, and convert 20 feet to meters. Then in GMax I enter 6.096m 6.096m x 6.096m. Make sure all the values you enter into GMax is converted to meters, that way you can never mix them up or get confused. There is ways to work in feet in GMax, but if you want a simple proven way, you can follow this guideline. I hope this answers your question?

Why do you guys
insist
on making this
SO COMPLICATED???
1. Set Max/GMax Customize/Preference Settings/System Unit Scale to "1 unit = 1 meter."
2. Forget that the above exists at all. Do not
EVER
change it again... This setting is required so that the export module will be able to convert whatever modeling units you are using to the standard 1u=1m that flightsim's compiler uses...
3. Use
ONLY
Customize/Units Setup to tell Max/GMax which system of measurement you want to use:
US Standard
Quote:
Decimal Inches
Fractional Feet
Decimal Feet
Feet with Fractional Inches
Feet with Decimal Inches
Metric
Quote:
Centimeters
Meters
Kilometers
You can even change your modeling units as often as you wish while working on the same scene!
If I need a box 1 meter square, I set the modeling units to "Metric:Meters" and simply create the box typing in 1m in the keyboard entry fields.
If I then need a box that is 12" square, I set the modeling units to "US Standard:Inches" and type 12" in the keyboard entry fields.
If I need a plane that is 46.356 feet square, I set the modeling units to "US Standard:Decimal Feet" and type 46.365' in the keyboard entry fields.
On the other hand, if I need to create a plane that is 2.43 hectares or 1.64 acres...
...NOW I need to do some manual calculations!!!

Fr Bill, I understand, and use the systems as you explained. I am an architect, and understand the priciple, I just realised that Nandi could get confused with it, therefore I tried to help.
The main reason I convert feet to meters is for me to create a picture in my mind. I am young, and didn't grow up with inches and feet, but with metric units, thus I cannot even imagine how far is 20ft.
thank you for all the help! it is GREAT!

Hello.
To see the hole pictures move sliders.
Letīs come to the end.
I tried some different thrings.
All you wrote is right, if you mean Max.
If I have feetdata I must at first change the unit to feet.
Then I can put the feetdata directly to Max and specvially I see that the unit is feet !
Before converting I change the unit to meter and all is correct.
I`m a German and we work mostly with FSDS. , because easier and quicker and all is possible as in Max
and important, German language.
But in FSDS is a bug .
In FSDS you can change the unit also as in Max.
That`s the bug.
You never should be able to do that.
There must be a warningwindow or better no way to do that.
In the instruction is it declared, but if you work also with Max, in hurry
like me,it`s forgotten.
What happen in FSDS.
I get a window to write the data in it.
I know, I have changed in feet like in Max
I write the feeddata and ok.
Nothing ok.
I don`t notice anything, but FSDS takes the data as meter.
In the FSDS windows you don`t see the different.
If ready and convert in unit meter, you see that as the big cessna.

Well of course what I wrote was about Max -and- GMax. I specifically wrote "Max/GMax," nicht wahar?
As to whether FSDS can do "all" that Max or GMax can do, that is very debatable. There quite a few things that FSDS can
NOT
do, or at least not do nearly as well.
What you have illustrated is just one of many shortcomings, and not even the most important.
As far as I'm concerned, the fact that FSDS doesn't even support FSX Materials is much more critical. If it were not for Dave Nunyez's wonderful FSTweak utility, it would be hopeless.
But, this thread really isn't about debating the merits of one modeling program or another, it was about "better downloads" and having some standards.
The standards are outlined in the FS9 and FSX SDKs. It's up to modelers to understand them, and how to achieve them irrespective of the modeling tools used...
The file you posted earlier, EDDB_FS9.zip is a perfect example of a "modeler" who does not understand how to use the tools properly. There's no reason why there should be such a mish-mash of runway signs in a release package...

Nandi. In FSDS, you set your program preferences (File Preferences) to model in meters of feet. The "System unit" of 1 unit=1 meter is handled internally.
There is no bug.
When you import a source file that was modelled in feet and your program is set up to model in meters, you will get a dialog box asking you to make the conversion or not.....
Even if you import a model in meters and leave it unchanged, the plugins menu inlcudes a "ScaleProject" utility to convert the model from one to the other.
