It would seems to me that the number of nav lights my FA/18 has is 4 too many! By looking at this photo do you agree? What can be done about it?

There are under-the-wing nav lights...Maybe they just aren't equipped on all Hornets?

I think it depends on weather or not their is a missile loaded onto the wing tip. Because if there is a missile on the wing tip, what's that point of a light being there?

Thank you both for the insight. How very strange that an aircraft would have more than one pair of nav lights. It does seem possible that if missles on the rails block out one pair, then more than one would be needed.
