I have d/l this recently from here but have 4 static aircraft with no textures.  If you have them in your installation I wonder if you'd let me have copies?
Thanks.

This is a quote from the readme...

Quote:
NB: The package includes 5 static aircraft. If you don't want these to appear so that you can use their parking slots for real AI, please delete the following files:

     add_SeevKahn.BGL
     Alderney Static Aircraft.BGL
     sk_Archer_G-VICC.bmp
     sk_Archer_Door_N388PZ.bmp
     sk_C172SP_white-orange_N88379.bmp
     sk_CessnaCitation_Red_Black_White.bmp
     sk_KingAir-B200_N200KA.bmp
     sk_ground-crew_1.bmp

You are missing the *.bmp files from either ...

1)  ...\Alderney\texture

or

2) a texture folder from a scenery with higher priority than Alderney, that contains add_SeevKahn.BGL

Do you have the RWY12 Static Objects Library active in your FS?

If so, you do not need add_SeevKahn.BGL in any other scenery folder.

Hope this helps.

cheers,
Joe

I downloaded my version from Flightsim.com, not here, and it came with all the textures.

I suggest if you can't find them on your PC by a search, that you re-download the addon.

Do you have the RWY12 object libraries?

If not, they are recommended because many addons will use them.

The libraries come in 3 parts and you do not have to install the RWY12 program to use them.

cheers,
Joe

Thanks Jobee - I'll check it out.  I've been thinking I might remove the statics & base 7 or 8 AI at EGJA with daily flights in & out padded with Blue Island Bae Jetstream 31 traffic.  I already have HeliTraffic there.   A trifle more movement......... Roll Eyes

This is the first time I found a need for RWY12 & I see it's 33MB!!
Thanks for info.

I just did a little testing and saw the problem and also found a solution - at least for me.

I do have all of the RWY12 libraries installed but disabled them for this test.

The Alderney package does contain everything you need so it is not necessary to download and install the three large RWY12 library packages.

When added to my Scenery Library as Number 1 priority, the static aircraft did not display textures - just like you reported.

However, when I moved that entry down to just above the default required entries, -just above Propeller Objects and my Addon scenery folder - they displayed properly.

No idea why that worked for me, but it did.

Hope you will give it a shot and let us know.

The file I downloaded from Flightsim.com is named alderney.zip

It does contain the files listed in the readme and my previous post.

I have two different installs of FS9, one if which is a clean install with no addons that I keep pristine for testing purposes. I installed this addon into that version of FS9 and everything displays fine, except for some missing tree textures. That is a seperate issue.

I looked at the static aircraft textures with ImageTool and they match what I see in the sim.

If you have all the files in an active scenery folder and see gray planes then something else is causing it, not the download.

Opa and Gypsymoth, please search your PC for "add_SeevKahn.BGL" without the quotation marks.

Please open each folder containing that file. They should all be named "scenery". Associated with each of those "scenery" folders should be a "texture" folder.

Please check each of those "texture" folders for the *.bmp files.

If you find any "texture" folders without the *.bmp files, copy them into that "texture" folder and retest.

I am curious as to why this works for me and not for you.

cheers,
Joe

Joe - as I said, it works just fine for me - just a matter of priority if you do not have the RWY12 libraries installed.

With all the RWY12 libraries (Static Objects Library) re-activated, priority did not matter.

Gypsymoth,

Are you testing at night?

One thing not included in this package is night textures for the static aircraft, so they will display gray at night.

This can be fixed by making a copy of each texture and adding "_lm", without quotation marks, to the end of the filename. By the way, just to be clear, that's "_ellem".

That is, instead of having sk_Archer_G-VICC.bmp, you would have sk_Archer_G-VICC.bmp and sk_Archer_G-VICC_lm.bmp

cheers,
Joe

That's great to hear, Opa.

I am still curious if you actually did the search.

And here's why, I have always been curious with how FS9 deals with multiple copies of the same file.

So I did some testing.

First thing I did was confirm that add_SeevKahn.BGL is the "object library" that contains the static planes. In my clean FS9 I installed the Alderney addon without add_SeevKahn.BGL and the planes did not appear on the ramp.

I then replaced add_SeevKahn.BGL and the planes displayed on the ramp.

Then I moved to my FS9 install that has the RWY12 Static Object Libraries installed on it.

I tested all four possible combinations of...

1) having Alderney above/below the RWY12 S.O.L. in the Scenery Library

and

2) having the textures only in Alderny\texture or RWY12 S.O.L.\texture

My results were...

with the textures only in the scenery with the higher priority, the planes were gray

and

with the textures only in the scenery with the lower priority, the planes displayed OK.

Since you stated changing priority affected how the static planes displayed, I am interested in your search results.

If you do not have the time for this, I understand.

cheers,
Joe

Stone me..this is getting to me.  While sipping a Wild Turkey I thought I'd try a lower priority as Opa suggested & Bingo - aircraft in Techniclour!    Now why should that work?   Oh - I told the boys in blue it was good to see them again.......
Thanks for all your help & if you do have an inkling I'd love to hear it!
Terry, testing at mid-day & with no empty folders.

JoBee - you might remember I had trouble with La Rochelle & a default tower appearing after adding a tower view with AFCAD2.21?  I've just today got AFX to play with........   Cool

Sorry it has taken so long to respond Joe - don't you just "hate it" when work interferes with the "fun" stuff?

Let me recap if I may - I worked very closely with the late Seev Kahn after RWY12 was first released - mainly on some documentation - but he and I had several discussions regarding the possible impact of duplicate "library" bgls.

He and I were both of the opinion at that time that there might well be some unintended reactions if more than one copy of a library bgl was present on a users system and we recommended that one should avoid that possibility.

As time worn on, and many "new" authors included more than they needed to in their scenery packages, it became clear that having duplicate library bgls "apparently" was not an issue.

I myself, on an older "bloated" installation had many duplicate bgls and saw no harm at all.

However, on my current setup - which is quite lean, I have avoided any duplicate bgls and/or textures - just to keep the setup as clean as possible. So there was no need to conduct a search.

In this case (Alderney) I did not remove the library (which was a duplicate of what I already had) from the scenery subfolder.  Therefore I had two copies of add_SeevKahn.BGL in play at the same time.

I have no reason to suspect that having both "active" played any part in the display (or not) of the textures.  That still remains a mystery to me (the fact that priority came into play).

As an aside I can report that only one RWY12 library has ever given me problems with textures - that was the FedEx trucks library and only when I placed a copy of the FedEx textures into my Main texture folder would they display.  Never have figured that one out but several folks I know have expereinced the same thing with that library.

Sorry to be so long winded but that is about all I can tell you about this. Not sure I answered your question either.
