Solved now via excellent support via biostar
mmmk......
Your memory support:
•Support Dual Channel DDR2 533/667/800/1066(1066 by AM2+ CPU) MHz
•2 x DDR2 DIMM Memory Slot
•Max. Supports up to 8GB Memory
So, just chuck any DDR2 in there.
There are several 4gb kits here at newegg, pick one -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147%201052108...This one is my pick because it has 5-5-5-15 timings at the lowest voltage rating of 1.8v, (same as Team Dark ram that I just bought)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231270There is another set there with 1.6v, but it's cas6 timings, no good ....
I'd be buying some cheap, but known reliable brand, 2 x 2gb PC8500 DDR2 1066 at cas5 ram. I just ordered a cheap pair of Team Dark modules myself because my Team Elite ram won't reach the overclock on my new mobo/cpu combo, where it was fine on my FX-62 AMD rig.
You can use faster ram than your system specifies by default, it will still work, plus you can overclock with it or move it to a faster system later if you wish, unless you upgrade to a DDR3 system of course.
Sometimes, ram that is not on the qualified vendor list for your mainboard may not configure to it's optimal speeds automatically, this is quite common. Bios settings are then used to tweak the ram for top performance. This is in no way indicative of the ram's quality, it's simply a reflection of how well supported the mainboard's bios is, and how compatible the bios is with the ram's SPD modules.
SPD, (serial presence detect) are tiny, pre-programmed ROM chips on the ram sticks, they tell the mainboard what the ram is and how to configure it for speeds and timings.
Sometimes really cheap "ebay" type ram will cause problems, but most DDR2 mainboards will support just about any DDR2 ram.
