@jlab58, the "red thingies" on the engines protect the engines from nesting birds, insects, and flying debris while parked. The streamers on the nose are part of the pitot tube covers, to prevent insects and junk from flying in them while parked. The streamers are there to be visible and are usually marked "Remove before flight".
