How come when I request taxi to the gates the ATC just places my aircraft in a random spot at the airport.
I am flying IFR flight plan so isn't it also known that I am flying to the airport as well?
2nd Question: How do I add more air traffic to airports? They always seem so empty and barren.

Not sure exactly what you meant in your first question, but you can increase the number of planes here:
Just increase the sliders.
Found in settings, customize, traffic.

For your second question.
All you have to do is go to the Settings section when you open FSX and then click the Traffic tab at the top of the settings window. Adjust the Airport Vehicle Density slider to the setting you like.

For your first question:
If you are flying a commercial airliner, be sure that you specify the airline in your "aircraft.cfg" file by including the lines:
atc_parking_codes=DAL
atc_parking_types=GATE,RAMP
Replace "DAL" (Delta Airlines) with the correct official designation for your particular airline. You can not make up any code and must use only what FSX understands. If you don't know the designation of you airline, do a search for something like "FSX Air Traffic Control callsigns". I once found a web site that had them all listed (including the FS made-up ones).
Anyway, with the added airline information, you will be sent to the correct terminal at the major airports. Unfortunately, your specific gate can not be specified (as far as I know).
If you are flying general aviation, I'm afraid I can't offer any help.
