I am hoping Nick will read this and respond, but I welcome any input.  I am about to embark on having a High End P.C. built for me for FSX.  I shall probably go for Windows 7 64bit. I have a couple of computer 'buffs' giving me advice, and they are both saying I should go for ATI Graphics and not nVidia.  Untill now, I have always followed Nicks instructions on installation etc etc, to include using nHancer for my GeForce 9800GTX.  As this is to be an expensive machine, I need to get things right!  I would therefore be grateful to know which 'graphics' to go for, and any other advice anyone might like to offer regarding Hardware in general.  Thanks in advance.

Radeon 5870 or Nvidia GTX 285.

IIRC, they are about equal in FSX. But the 5870 is faster in everything else.

Isn't the 5970 faster?

Here is a link to a thread regarding the Nvidia GTX285 and the ATI 5870.  NickN did express his opinion in this thread.

If you are interested here is a link to a thread where NickN gave me a list of hardware.

I had that PC built and this is the list of hardware that was used in the actual PC and I tell you, for FSX this PC rocks!

Good luck with your new PC!

The 5970 is actually two graphics processing units in one card... FSX doesn't take use of the 2nd one. The clock speeds on the remaining GPU are lower than the 5870, so it's likely to be slower than the 5870.

But yes it will be faster in the majority of other applications.

Ah, that why SLi isn't recommended for FSX?

Thanks to all here.  I have looked at the different Links, and all very interesting.  This will certainly help me assess my up and coming requirements.
