Yup, and if it makes you feel any better I did a fair bit of "consumption" myself whilst doing all the housework. The weird thing is the place is immaculate... my head on the other hand has decided the combinations I was experimenting with weren't overly clever. Still managed to get up at 04.50 this morning to get ready for work!

The fourth evolution of the Fox Four F-86E/F is undergoing final testing, and BUB has three newly upgraded skins ready to go with the new aircraft. All nearing the time for posting. There's a Gabreski and a Risner in the E. as well as a Parr F Smiley

Now....the final pile that I've stepped in is this breakable ship business. but that is more Collin's baby than mine. So I'm off the hook a bit on this one.....no time frame available. Sad

Sopwith C's airbrush is starting to heat-up. Korean textures for the AD-2 in Navy and Marine service. Navy gray and USAF Sandy in the works. The boy is just plain gooooooood! Smiley

How sweet this baby is!

In 1965, I stood on the runway at Lowry AFB, CO while all the aircraft from a large airshow departed for home. All the jets did high-performance takeoffs and made a low pass before leaving. I soon forgot the puttering old A-1H after she tottered off and disappeared into the east. About ten minutes later everyone on the field was looking up seeking the source of the high-pitched scream of a piston engine. What we saw was the A-1H in a 70-degree dive. She must have started at about 20,000 ASL feet (the field elevation is 5.000 ASL) and finally pulled out at around 2,000 above the runway. Point made, A-1 Pilot. She ain't flashy, but she's got hidden talents. Wink

There are some real problems (more than one or two) involved in repainting this aircraft without extensive work on the source file.....which is why we are trying to locate it in the archives.....and some of the issues are M_A_J_O_R. Cry

BUT the WIP is looking good so far.....except the red dragon head is missing from the D....freaking Chinese in Hong Kong paint red dragons on anything not nailed down....but then the freaking Aussies prefer yellow roos....don't ever land on an Aussie carrier.

Lest we forget.....The Fleet Air Arm did not have a monopoly on this aircraft, which is actually an AD-4W of which 168 were built. FAA only got 50 of them redesignated as AEW-1s. The Navy and Marines were the primary operators of this machine.....and they were big on museum paint jobs. Roll Eyes

We might get a winner here....The AEW-1 is born again as the fruit of Sopwith's airbrush. OK, we got the D Flight/849 Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm. They did a tour in Hong Kong and someone painted a red dragon head on the nose D. They once operated off an Aussie carrier and someone painted a yellow kangaroo on the roundel. Have we discovered the origin of grafitti?????? Cheesy

I'll have to find out first TR, allegedly the two types flew in pairs of one each for early warning patrols (Of course, I may have read this in 'Wikipedia')

Hi OW,

Think you will find that the 3W were ex USN with the old Avenger radar system, these were assigned to 778 sdn at Culdrose (CU on the tail) for testing. 4W was the improved version and theses were assigned to 849 sdn and went shipboard. It might be that as the 3W was converted from standard USN Skyraider, and the 4W was made to measure, its wing roots were moved to compensate for the radar dome and weight.
One time 849 sdn removed the radar pod to try to turn the aircraft into a troop mover, and the pilot nearly crashed as it was a complete 'pig' to fly...very nose heavy.
