Problem: While on the ground, i have to "bump" my twiststick (Saitek ST-290 Pro) in the direction of travel that I want to go.  Left or Right.  The nose wheel will not go ~60 degrees in either direction and stay there through the turn.  It will go in the direction, then immediately it will go back to being straight forward.   What numbers do I need to change in the AIRCRAFT.cfg to get the nosewheel to turn more and STAY while I hold my "steering/rudder" in the desired direction?

Thanks.

positive. AP is never turned on until i hit the runway and am "in position".  Once ATC gives me clearance to take off, "fly runway heading, climb and maintain 5000 feet" , i set Atitude, speed=250kias, +1800 vertical speed, yaw damper OFF.

Actually, if the AP is on and engaged, you should have the Yaw Damper ON...

...in fact, that's the only time it should be on!  Cool

Hello
You should check out the Posky support forums.I am sure i have heard  of posky 747v4 taxiing problems before.A word of warning!make sure you search there forums carefully.If you should ask for help without first checking there support forums thoroughly,you stand to have head bitten off.
PS the possible solution will probably be in the many updates they release for there aircraft.
cheers Andy

I find the support forum almost as frustrating to use as the main site. The Knowledge Base search feature is a joke.
This might address the steering problem. http://forum.projectopensky.com/index.php?showtopic=31347

No wonder people come here for advice. Shocked

Yeah, the POSKY team is rather sensitive to criticism and questions.  They do make nice models, just their support could be a little more...supportive.  I have heard of the POSKY 747 having taxi problems, mainly skidding through turns.  I always figured that was a FS fault for large aircraft until I got the RFP 747-200, and it turned perfectly.

Are you using a different panel than what came with the model. The reason I ask is that some of the Posky models need a gauge/gauges to control things like wing flex and gear animations.

i.e:

[VCockpit03]
size_mm=512,512
pixel_size=512,512
texture=$Posky_ACU
background_color=0,0,0
gauge00=Posky744!PkyCALC, 140,80,140,80
gauge01=Posky744!PkyNosegearheight, 140,80,140,80
gauge02=Posky744!PkyBodygearheight, 140,80,140,80
gauge03=Posky744!PkyWinggearheight, 140,80,140,80
gauge04=Posky744!PkyLeftgearboggie, 140,80,140,80
gauge05=Posky744!PkyRightgearboggie, 140,80,140,80
gauge06=Posky744!PkyLeftwgearboggie, 140,80,140,80
gauge07=Posky744!PkyRightwgearboggie, 140,80,140,80
gauge08=Posky744!PkyNosegearsteerling, 140,80,140,80
gauge09=Posky744!PkyWINGROOTFLEX, 140,80,140,80
gauge10=Posky744!PkyRWINGMIDFLEX, 140,80,140,80
gauge11=Posky744!PkyRWINGTIPFLEX, 140,80,140,80
gauge12=Posky744!PkyLWINGMIDFLEX, 140,80,140,80
gauge13=Posky744!PkyLWINGTIPFLEX, 140,80,140,80
gauge14=Posky744!PkyRudder, 140,80,140,80

I discovered that only after installing an addon panel to a cargo version of a 747 model, and the nose wheel was locked at 90 degrees from straight. I added the gauges in question to the addon panel, and the problem was no more.

I don't know if this would cause the problem you're having, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Just a note to say that i do have quite a few Posky 747s and they DO taxi correctly, so i am sure you will get it sorted.
POSKY=Nice aircraft
BUT rather ferocious staff/developers sometimes.

I thought there was another set of numbers somewhere like in the aircraft.cfg that controls the nosewheel steering angle.  Maybe the angle is off and that is why I am having to "bump" the gear in order to even turn; that is unless i decide to use Differential Breaks along with engine power to create the turn.  (toe break left, and run up engines 3 and 4 to bring it around .... vice versa to go to the right)

You might check the [contact_points] section the in aircraft.cfg file and experiment with some number changes - especially number 7.

This is a list of what each area means:

0 Class
1 Longitudinal Position (feet)
2 Lateral Position (feet)
3 Vertical Position (feet)
4 Impact Damage Threshold (Feet Per Minute)
5 Brake Map (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)
6 Wheel Radius (feet)
7 Steer Angle (degrees)
8 Static Compression (feet) (0 if rigid)
9 Max/Static Compression Ratio
10 Damping Ratio (0=Undamped, 1=Critically Damped)
11 Extension Time (seconds)
12 Retraction Time (seconds)
13 Sound Type
14 Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS)
15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)

Good Luck!

PS - This tread may be of help - particularly the comments by John Hinson. Be sure to read the entire thread.

I've had ground handling problems with several different aircraft.  I find the easiest fix is in the aircraft cfg file.  Go to [brakes] & add the entry "differential_braking_scale = 1.0" that should solve a lot of troubles.

I have a similar problem. The nosegear turn but the aircraft just slides forvard and turn very slow. It goes more straight forward then turn. I have many Posky 747 and i have just noticed this on the JAL 747 400 freighter and the Emirates Sky cargo 747. The other works just fine.

I don´t taxy to fast. Another thing i noticed with theese to is that the tail tip ower like they have to much weight on the tail. I changed the CG and weight distribution and it worked. Maybee theese two liveries are based on the same platform with a bug?   Roll Eyes
