Not before time. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/6841130/Campaign-to-honour-Hawker-Hurrica...

Quote:
Campaign to honour Hawker Hurricane designer Sir Sydney Camm

As the designer of such legendary aircraft as the Hawker Hurricane and Hawker Harrier, Sir Sydney Camm has been described as the Isambard Kingdom Brunel of aeronautical engineering.

Yet his vital contribution to victory in the Second World War, and his leading role in post-war defence, has remained largely unrecognised by the British public.

More than 40 years after his death, a fundraising appeal has been launched to educate future generations about his towering achievements by installing a full-sized replica of a Hurricane in his home town of Windsor and setting up a scholarship fund in his name.

The list of successful aircraft that Sir Sydney Camm was responsible for as Chief Designer of Hawker Aircraft Ltd since 1925 is incredible. Here's just a few examples from an amazing career.

The 1930s
The legendary series of Hawker biplane fighters & bombers including
Fury
Hart
Hind

WWII
Hurricane
Typhoon
Tempest

Post WWII
Sea Fury
Sea Hawk
Hunter
Harrier

Between 5th and 6th grade, I was given a 1/72-scale WW1 Nieuport (forgotten the version) and my mom bought me a 1/32-scale, chromed plastic P-51D in a closeout sale. Soon after I bought The Hurricane Story (by Paul Gallico); the catalyst for schwarms of WW2 model aircraft, particularly fighters.

Cool

Tis long overdue for this genius of aviation to get some permanent recognition.

Always a pleasure to read your informative articles with "Links" to further information Doug.

I think I mentioned once before that the Hawker Sea Fury cost me a few beers in the mess as it could reach a selected altitude ahead of the F86 Sabre.   Grin

Hawker did make fine aircraft.   Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
