I've installed ZGGG New Baiyun Airport (zggg_bai.zip from here) & added it to my FS9 scenery library as usual & it's No.1.  When I go to my list of airports I have a ZGGG Baiyun, & underneath it ZGG0 Baiyun (Old).  Checking them out they're both the same default ZGGG.

AFCAD221 tells me ZGG0 is Mod layer 4 Baiyun(Old) & ZGGG Baiyun(New) is layer 167 Mod.  I've run a duplicate afcad search without finding another ZGGG.    The installation required 3 files in Scenery\asia\scenery to be replaced which I did after copying them.     I've installed lots of airports but not had this problem before - can't work out why the new one doesn't show   Huh   I'd be grateful for someone to put me right!!

Oh - I got Ai_China.zip from here not this one, but haven't installed that yet

I can't find the file or I would check it out for you. Any chance of a link to the page it's posted on?

PS. I tracked it down on another site. I followed the installation instructions & it seems to be working fine for me. Before installing it I checked out the default airport. It's listed on the menu as in this shot.
...

The new install will give you the New & Old airports. This is the new airport.
...

If it doesn't look like this for you I suspect you didn't configure the ZGGG folder properly.

I could not find that file file here either but did find it at Flightsim.com

I installed it as per the instructions and I get two airports to select from in the Go to Airport menu - one is listed as Baiyun (old) ZGG0 and the other is listed as Baiyun (new) ZGGG.

There is a remarkable difference in the two - not sure what you might have done incorrectly as it works properly for me.

Thanks.  Hagar - my new ZGGG appears above the highlighted one which has been renamed (Old) ZGG0.  My installation looks exactly like yours.

The thing is Dave when I click on the new ZGGG I get the old one.   The only way I can see the new is to leave the old & fly to the new.   I was hoping all my ai would populate the new one but they're all at the old one....I'd like to remove the old but can't find it, if that's possible!

Something not right there. After I installed the new scenery the Old & New airports are listed on the menu as you describe.

...

When either is selected you should go to the corresponding airport in its respective location. Not sure if AI packages would work with the new scenery unless they're specifically created for it. I only have the default AI traffic in this install & saw one aircraft parked at a gate at the new airport.

PS. I just added the co-ords of the new ZGGG to Airports030528.txt & recompiled it in TTools. I now have traffic at the new airport. This is my edited entry.
ZGGG,N23* 23.58',E113* 17.88',50

...

PPS. I've just installed a few Chinese airline AI packages from WOAI. My new ZGGG airport is now full of airliners. I haven't enjoyed FS9 so much for a long time.

I've just got TTools & am reading the manual but I can't find that file - Airports030528.txt after doing a computer search.
Is this what yours ended up as or before you edited it?
I'm afraid this is another learning curve!!

Sorry Terry. I thought you would probably be more familiar with TTools than me. First you have to run TTools & decompile Traffic030528.bgl. This will create 3 text files in the TTools folder named Aircraft030528.txt, Airports030528.txt & Flightplans030528.txt. Open Airports030528.txt in Notepad & find the existing ZGGG entry. Modify it with the figures I quoted & save changes. Now back in TTools recompile the 3 text files. It's all automatic.

I suggest you make sure that the scenery is properly installed before doing all this. You should be able to select both the Old & New airports from the Free Flight selection menu. If you can't do that then we need to sort it out.

Thanks Hagar.  I'll removed the new zggg & start again tomorrow.   Your TTools info much appreciated too.  I read some of the manual but felt it assumed a level of knowledge I was struggling with...

A thought occurred to me that could explain your problem. Which method did you use to back up the 3 default BGL files? If you renamed them but kept the .BGL extension FS9 can still read them. I simply knocked the L off the end of the BGL file extension. Also make sure you backed up the correct files.

That should be fine. Good Luck!

PS. You could always drag them into a new folder to make absolutely sure.

This gets wierder.  I deleted ZGGG from the library & removed it from scenery.  I made a new folder & contents, reinstalled it as usual & it shows in my airport list.  When I choose the new ZGGG, Baiyun(Old) pops into the window & I go there.  The new one shows on Map, & a saved flight goes there - no other traffic as yet.

I've decompiled & edited Traffic030528.bgl as you suggested but do I copy the edited file back to Scenery/world/scenery? where it resides.  I assume I should do but thought I'd ask first!

Also, as this is the defualt traffic file I had removed it as I have a lot of WoAI aircraft so copying it back will give me default traffic?  I'm assuming that's the way to get traffic at the new ZGGG but it will be default aircraft?   Does edting that file get WoAI traffic there?   It may be a silly ? but I'm stumbling in the dark here!!

This is turning out to be a minefield!   I don't think I've ever had so much problem solving with an add-on before!

13.00hrs: After many efforts to get the new one loaded, I thought I fly in & do a tower view.  I saved it as AF2_ZGGG_TW.bgl as I've done with others so I know which ones I edited, restared FS9 & chose ZGGG & bingo -
I was at the new one with 31 aircraft parked & moving AND
I've just seen a 747 land  Cheesy   This is very odd - was it the new AF2 that did it?   Huh

From what you're saying the new scenery is still not installed correctly. I suspect you didn't replace those default BGLs properly.

You shouldn't need to move any files. TTools looks for Traffic BGL files in the default FS9 directory. It updates them automatically when it recompiles them. I've never edited one outside the default location.

This complicates matters. Not sure what you do about the default Traffic030528.bgl if you removed it. I'm getting out of my depth here. Airports030528.txt is a list of all default airports in FS9 that use AI traffic. Most of the AI aircraft in my previous shot are WOAI.

I'm not sure as I've never messed around with the tower view. You will know more about that than me. The main thing is that you've got it working.

TTools = this is the first time I've used it & I can see now that the files are updated automatically - my silly question really.

When I was adding WoAI last year, someone suggested removing  Traffic030528.bgl to get rid of the default aircraft to make more parking spaces  & I just knocked the l off.  As it was still in the World/Scenery folder & was the one you said had to be edited I renamed it & ran it through TTools with your edit. That worked as there's a lot of traffic at the new airport.

I edit tower views with AFCAD221 as I don't want views from a field a mile away. As it all seemd to work after I saved the AF2_ZGGG_TW.bgl, I'm assuming this morning's re-installation was correct as I've not changed anything with that.

Well, thanks for your help.   I might put a new Bejing in but..... Huh   Roll Eyes

Here is my experience with this airport.

I downloaded the file from Flightsim.com along with several WoAI packages that serve ZGGG.

Following the install instructions and without editing any flightplans I see...
...
I spotted for a while and AI departures and arrivals all worked OK.

You do not need to edit any flightplans if the airport is installed correctly.

AI will use the ICAO code regardless of the lat/lon listed in the airports*.txt portion of the flightplan.

The purpose of disabling the default files is to remove all reference of ZGGG to the default airport.

If you do not see what I posted in the screenie in the Go-to-Airport window, if selecting (new) takes you to the old airport, if you see AI at the old airport, then I think that you do not have this airport installed correctly.

You might have a corrupt download and need to delete what you have and download again.

Also, any edits you make to traffic030528.bgl will impact that file only and not change anything in any other flightplan.

Hope this helps.

cheers,
Joe

I'd just like to point out that I didn't edit any flightplans, nor did I suggest doing so. I had no 3rd party AI traffic installed when I first checked it out & only saw one AI aircraft at the new airport. After adding the new airport co-ords & installing several WOAI packages I got similar results to what you have in your screenshot.

PS. As an experiment I'll remove the default Traffic BGL & see what happens.

I've removed the default Traffic030528.bgl too, & still have 40 aircraft at the new ZGGG, but I must thank Hagar for all his help.  It's a simple installation - make a ZGGG folder & put the scenery & texture folders in it, plus 3 files to be replaced in \Scenery\asia\scenery folder.  Add to the Scenery Library & there it should be...I did this but it didn't work & had it not been for Hagar's input I might have given up  Sad but |I didn't   Cheesy

Just a little Tip -

The WOAI Home page has a little know feature which will tell you what packages they have serve a particular airport.

This can be very useful if you are needing to edit a particular Traffic file (or files) but are not sure which airlines serve the airport in question.

After selecting the WOAI Aiports tab you just enter the ICAO code into the box and a list of airlines (packages they offer) that serve that airport will be displayed.

...

Hope you find this infornation useful.
