Scenery "pops up"? (Read 822 times)

I've installed FS9 on my new, high-end system (i7920 o/cd to 3.8, 6gb RAM, GTX275 card, etc.)  Everything flows smoothly and I couldn't be more pleased.  However, something isn't quite right in my fs.cfg and I could use some help.  The scenery relatively close to the aircraft continually pops up, or perhaps the better term is that you can see it refreshing itself as the textures and the ground is being updated.  Again, this is close to the aircraft - maybe 2 or 3 miles or so at low altitude.  Any suggestions on what to change in the .cfg to load more of the scenery at one time?  Thanks.

My Specs:
i7 920 oc'd to 3.8
6gb Corsair RAM
ASUS P6T Deluxe v2,
EVGA 275GTX
1TB WD 7200/32 Black
2x 750GB WD 7200/32 Black
Samsung 22" 1680x1050 LCD
Corsair 800D case
Windows 7 64-bit

Mmm.  Sounds like a graphics thing......some one with more expertise might be able to help.  Try new drivers?   You could do a search for a cfg tweak blog/post here & try tweaking but graphics/drivers......?  Huh

Silly question but do you have autogen and scenery sliders maxed out? What about add-on scenery slider? Do that and it helps.

However, FS9 processes ground detail differently than FSX. It's single core vs multi-core processing. I only notice it when I'm actually on the ground, taxiing out or back in.

...always a thing to remember...

...in real life, you cannot see "clearly" over a distance.....ie; objects appear clearer as you approach them...Wink...!

Even though all my FS 2004 Scenery Sliders are "maxed out", I still restrict my "Weather visibility" to between 3, 5 and 10 miles maximum, which makes objects become clearer as I get closer to them, as they will do in real life...especially when flying at low altitude.... Smiley...!

When you are up in the air, the scenery below you is often obscured by dust, mist, smoke, fog, etc...and this makes the scenery "pop up" as you get closer... Smiley...!

You cannot see the eyes of the Sheep grazing on the hill 10 miles away from you!...most times you will be lucky to see the Sheep!.... Grin...!

Reducing your "sight distance" makes the experience more realistic.... Smiley... Wink...!

Paul...pops up in strange places!... Wink... Grin...!

have a read through this page http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28865

pay attention to these lines
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.50000
I think it will help for your concern
but there is lots of info there to absorb
Good luck

Hello
The setting that is usually associated with the texture 'popping' problem is  the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT setting in your FS9 cfg.The default is 40 mine is currently set at 340 some people set it 400 (i believe that anything beyond 400 has no effect,but i could be wrong.This is a well known tweak for texture popping and hopefully you should see an improvement.
cheers Andy

Sorry to resurrect this thread after all this time but I'm having the same problem with the autogen scenery popping up in front of me at low altitudes. I've tried all the recommendations above and apart from Fozzers wise words (which mask the problem rather than curing it) nothing has made any difference.
Since getting my new PC I am able to run everything maxed and FS9 runs really well apart from this probem.

Any more ideas?

Zaphod
