Well, I want to upgrade my PC but the Wifey doesn't "...see the need. You can play your Flight sim right.?" So, since a full new build is out, I am going to try and squeaze a ram and VC upgrade. I was looking at another gig of ram and for the video card these two options:
A gforce 8400gs or a 7900series.
Now, obviously from the cards I listed these upgrades have to be minimal cost to "get approved", so please don't try to stear me towards a better card. I have a 350 watt PS so I have limitations there as well.
Is the 8400 better than say the 7900GT? What I have read on the reviews on the 8400gs is that they are mostly fanless cooling and get hot.
Any guidance would be greatly appriciated. I also found a PNY 9400GT for $45 on craigslist but I fear that my PS would not handle it.
Thanks.

The MSI 8400GS has a small fan but not sure how effective.

They both suck.
But if I had to choose, 7900GT.
It has 7 times the memory bandwidth, which is important for FSX.

The 8400GS is just about the worst graphics card ever made... the 7900GT, was, at least, good for its time.
9800GT green is a great card and
might
run on your PSU.

Hi.
I would go for the 7900.I dont know what kind of hardware you have but i had the same 350 w psu, and it run perfect with my 7950 gt oc.I had 2 HD one DVDR, 1 gb ram.
For the wife......I would go for 2 breakfast in bed, 1 walk in the park missing a game on TV.
.
Then a power failure that damage your pc.
