I've spent the past 2 days combing the Internet and this forum trying to make my system work with FSHost.  I've open all the required ports, disabled my firewall, double-checked with my ISP to see if they are blocking ports (and they are not) and I always get the same message "not able to connect to your IP Address, please open port 80".  Port 80 is open according to this site http://www.canyouseeme.org/  but FSPortest times out on ALL ports and fails. I have a static IP .... probably at the modem and probably a different IP than my actual computer ... so the port tester (and FSHost) may not work until there is some way to resolve these 2 numbers?  Anyway .... the effort is monumental and I will have  to give up and go back to GameSpy arggggg.  It seems from the number of players using the FSHost system that most people have given up here too?

Gizz...are you using FSX with FS Host? (...rather than the Sim V Multiplayer server for FS 2004?)

Fozzer,
The way I understand FSHost is that I load up FSX at the airport of my choice with the airplane of my choice.  I then run FSHost which starts a server for me. Next I join my own game and finally my friends run FSHostClient and after loading FSX they join under Add-Ons and Multiplayer using my Static IP.  Unfortunately FSHost always comes back with an error stating that it connected .... but at the wrong page.  I believe that FSHost has it's own servers ... but I'm not sure .... they might be the Sim V Multiplayer servers.  The address you give gives me a web page that really doesn't tell me what to do?????  I am not using GameSpy if that's what you meant?

Tai-2 .... I'm using a HN7000S modem from Hughes ...

I think my ports are ok since FSHost now finds me ... but just says it's the wrong page ... and I've tried all the recommended solutions ... which don't work.

But thanks guys for your responses .... I am learning a few things. This is what the error looks like ....

...

Grizz....

One of the many reasons why I gave up using FSX years ago, was because of the "difficulties" in connecting to a Multiplayer Server....

FSX seems to be programmed to cause us Multiplayer problems, which don't exist in FS 2004!.... Shocked...!

I must fire up my FSX again today, to see if I can connect to our Sim V Multiplayer Server...>>> http://cockpit.netfrag.org:81/

(I have no "Port" problems with FS 2004)... Smiley...!

Will see how I get on!...Wink...!

If you use FSHost, your computer becomes the server, and then your game is dependent on your systems ability to handle all the people who will join.

If you just want to use the SimV server, you only need to run FSHostclient.

Did you read this thread, for setting up your ports?
http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1252421080

To run FSX on the Simviation server with FSHost, before you start FSX do the following:

-Click the FSHostClient.exe

...

-This will pop up:

In the IP address window, enter: fs.netfrag.org like I did, and click 'Search IP for sessions'

...

-When it finds SimV's server, click Connect at the bottom. The chat window will pop up. Wink

...

...

Now, start FSX in Windowed mode, and leave it that way.

Set AI traffic to 0%  and lock frames to 20 and you should be good  to go.

Will give it a try, Shane...(I am in my Flagellating Mood)..... Wink.... Grin...!

I could never figure out why FSX didn't have the simple option; "Multiplayer Connect", in a Drop-down Menu...like it does in FS 2004.... Cry...!

It put a lot of Folks off FSX when it was released...probably still does!... Shocked...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004/FSX.... Cool...!

P.S....why does it insist on running in; "Windowed Mode"?... Roll Eyes....!

They thought the Gamespy servers could handle the function, and M$ made money off selling the feature to Gamespy.

Unfortunately, they never solved the port problems in FS, so when it went live on Gamespy, they have all the same problems we do, only they didn't know how to solve it.

Ever since I got my ports issue solved, I can fly on any server, including Gamespy, without ever getting kicked off.

I prefer the SimV server though,  Gamespy always has too many kids on it. Roll Eyes

This port problem will remain, as long as the messed up code in MSFS remains.  It's been there since FS2002. Cry

..the problem I have, is that Simviation/cockpit.fsnetfrag.org rarely, if ever, appears in the FShost client list of Servers when using FShost for FSX, instead of going direct to... http://cockpit.netfrag.org:81/ in FS 2004 Multiplayer!

(The WSP Servers always appear in the list)..... Smiley...!

What list  Huh ?

I've never seen any lists of servers.

I just keep the SimV server IPs logged in, and only use those.

FS Host Spy is where I obtain all the list of Flight Sim Servers..and where I obtain the Server addresses to connect to...Wink...!

I keep the Icon on my Desktop in readiness to connect to any of the Servers listed.....the red FSS Icon...

Simviation/cockpit.netfrag.org rarely appears in the list... Cry...!

Ok .... I open FSClient and join as you said and THEN open FSX in a window.  If I do that and someone has started a game am I at the airport of their choice and can I change my aircraft?  I do see the Chat window.  So .... it appears I can join someone else's game but I just can't start my own.

Thanks for helping me to understand this a little more.

Missed this the first time. FSX needs to be in windowed mode, only when using the FSHost servers, so that you can use the chat box.

If you're running Teamspeak, and don't use the chat window, then you can leave it in full screen if you want, but if someone sends you a message, you won't know it.

When doing it this way, the game is always 'running on the server'.  No one actually starts the game, you just join the world so to speak.  Wink

When you join, it will be just like doing normal free flight.

You can choose any airport and any plane, and fly where ever you wish, there is no need to stick with the people that may be online already.
