I had a friends son get a hold of one of mine.
Before I decided to trash it, I opened it up. Found that one of the springs popped of and a wire snapped. I reattached the spring and welded the wire back on. Worked great for another three years before I upgraded.
My suggestion, once you decide to trash it, go ahead and open it up. If you can fix it, great, if not, you were going to throw it away anyway right?
What do computers and air conditioners have in common?
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

Hello!
Did it take anything special to open it? I lost the x axis and FFB on my realy old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feeback 2 a few years ago and this sparked the idea of looking inside. However it has these really odd shaped security screws on the bottom. After some searching they are very similar to the Tri Wing screws made by this company, but they have 4 wings instead of 3.

This joystick is collecting dust and I have a few old games that don't like my X52, and with a logitech G940 shipping for Christmas I believe those old games will be lost forever if I don't fix this old stick.
EDIT: Got it open with brute force apply to the screws. I could not see what was wrong so I hooked it up with the cover off (upside down of course) and it seemed to work perfectly. I put the cover back on and it works. I don't know why it wasn't working a few years ago, it supposedly completely died. Thanks for sparking my memory about fixing it!
