Yep, just really eroded ones.  Cheesy  Wink

And they have to be above sea level, The Grand Canyon is not a mountain, even if you're at the bottom looking up.  Grin

Not sure those are mountains by scientific definition. If I remember correctly it is a spire( don't have my notes with me)...  it may even look like a mesa( or one of them at least) Smiley might even be a butte

But what ever the judges think are mountains is good

But the topic says "mountain vistas"

Mountains maybe not so much... but there are definitely vistas in there.

Just to clarify this....

I have to make a whole new shot... I cant enter a shot that I have already posted on SimV that has not been entered in any contest? Smiley Huh

That is correct.  Wink

That rule is the 'playing field leveler' for this contest. Besides, with the kind of great shots you take now, why would you want to use an old one.  Wink Cool

@ Rob-  Show us some mercy!  Shocked Shocked

Smiley

Shane.... mercy is for the weak

haha, 10 make believe points for whoever knows what movie that quote is from.  Wink

Is anyone planning on leaving the competition after this round?

If not, we'll just skip the half way break, and keep on going to round 10.  Wink

I wouldn't call either of them a mountain, but hey, I'm only a geologist...
Interestingly enough, there is no universally accepted definition of a mountain.
I'd call the Monument valley cliffs mesas, and the Grand Canyon is what the name says, a canyon, so a steep depression. What they have in common is that both show horizontal layers of rocks, so they have not been deformed, just uplifted.
In general a mountain is a rockmass that is clearly higher than it's surroundings, but how much higher? Numbers vary, but more than 1000 ft/350 m seems a lower limit, though 2000 m is mentioned as well...
Mountains are usually the result of either volcanic activity (Kilimanjaro, Mt Fuji or Mt Hood are mountains, but also volcanoes) or continental collision (the Alps, Rockies, Andes etc) in which case the rocks are deformed.
As for mountains having to be above sea level, there are also sea mounts....by some definitions, Hawaii is the highest mountain on Earth, as it rises more than 9000 m above the seafloor...flight simming would then become flight swimming...
