Asking people for their opinons on this matter is worthless, only your opinion is worth listening to.

Welllllllll.....I would beg to differ with ya on that opinion.  There are a LOT of smart folks around here who have helped me out IMMENSELY on more than a few issues!  I value the opining and assisting here at SimV quite highly.

That aside, thanx y'all for the input thusfar!!! Smiley

I'm afraid Mr H is correct. The only way for you to find out is to go to a shop and try them both out. I use a canon, but a lot of my lowfly photo friends are switching to Nikon due to the superior AF settings and better low light performance. In reality however there is little between them, despite the war mongering that goes on between the hard core elite of supporters.

I'd also look at the lens systems as well as the cameras....what lenses do you think you'll require and look at the equivalent canon and nikon and check some reviews out. Remember, the lens is always more important than the body....Wink

Thank you Mic, glad someone understands what I was trying to say (but then, you actually know something about photography). Roll Eyes

U4EA - I've been using Canon gear for over 7 years now and I could gush about it for ages or express my hatred, but my experience of it is irrelevant because I'm not you and I don't live your life, astonishingly! Have a look and feel of them yourself and decide accordingly, taking into account the kind of things Mic has suggested.

This is like asking Boeing or Airbus and Microsoft or Apple.

It really all depends on what you do. Both brands have comparable models especially at the higher end of the food chain. I personally go for Canon and similar to you have had great times with Powershot models.

I would go with what I am familiar with. Seeing you already have used Canon's line of point and shoots, upgrading to a DSLR on canon is similar.

How dare you say such things.  The answer to these questions are as follows:

Boeing
Microsoft
Canon

I would apreciate if you would attempt to restrain yourself from belittling, demeaning and borderline insultive comment(s).........I asked a question!  PERIOD!!!

If you do not have anything constructive to offer, then choose to ignore postings that do not allow you to add anything meaningful to the 'converstion'!

I reckon I am adult enough to do so when I see postings that I see as silly or downright stupid.....too bad others are not so equipped!

I think that is a little harsh.

They are just trying to find opinions on cameras, and you told them to take those opinions (whilst telling them to ignore opinions too). If they don't know what they are looking for then they can find out. A brand new £1000 camera may suit their lifestyle, but through following opinions they may find one which suits them better (and is overall better) for less.

Maybe they don't know anything about photography, but we were all in that boat once, and it unless you have someone to guide you through the processes, it can be quite tricky.
