Have any of you ever met any members of any bands/musical performance groups? If so, was it a good, bad, or "meh" experience?

Another random question out of curiosity provided by SeanTK...  Grin

I worked as Orange Bowl event security for a while in the '70s.

Once I was working a back gate (not the artists entrance), a limo pulled up and Gregg Allman and his driver got out.  I recognized him (the Allman Brothers were one of the highlight acts) so I just let him in without ID.

He was heavily under the influence of something.

He didn't enter the stadium anywhere near the dressing rooms but once he passed my checkpoint he wasn't my problem.

I've met:
Bobby Goldsboro - really nice guy, very friendly.
Dennis Yost & The Classics IV - ditto
Ace Cannon and his band - ditto, they put on a great act without Ace. But Ace was the south end of a north bound mule.
Eric Burdon of The Animals - Just a little weird.
Joe Stamply - in the sixties when he was with The Uniques, nice guy, friendly.
Razzy Bailey and his wife - very nice guy. A little shy in public though; his wife said he still gets nervous before going on stage. He was more normal on the phone.
Martin Delray - not friendly, not very talkative. He is extremely talented though.
Sid Herring of the sixties band, The Gants - friendly enough, but a little pushy. He mixed a couple of songs I wrote and did not do a good job of it. We were under contract to the same studio at the time.
David, Rayburn, and Clayburn Huff of David and The Giants - I have known them since the mid sixties and they are good friends. They were a rock band and are now a Christian rock group. For a while, Keith Thibodeaux was their drummer. He was one of the drummers that played little Ricky on I Love Lucy. He is also the one that introduced the Huffs to Christianity. I was with David when I met Bobby Goldsboro. They were house band at The Vapors in Biloxi and the owner use to bring in known acts to split sets with the house band. That is also where I met The Classics IV and Ace Cannon's band and would have met Willie Nelson if he had not cancled.

That's all I can remember right now.

Edited:
Oh yeah, I use to give Charlie Mars guitar lessons.  Roll EyesHe's not a 'band' member, but Tom Lester (Eb on the tv series Green Acres) has been a personal friend for years. And he is definitely not dumb. But he is a character.  Grin

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

I've met quite a few famous performers in my years in "show biz"... they're usually nicer in a social setting than when you're working with them.  Grin

But I got over any awe of celebs a long time ago... they're just people, despite their gifts or their fame.

Blackie Lawless from w.a.s.p., he's massive and I'm 6ft, just said great show blah blah blah.

Bruce Dickinson and Nicko from Iron Maiden, had a quick chat to Bruce about beer as he loves his real ales like myself.

Love/Hate, Jizzy was stoned.

Airbourne, guys were so pumped just to playing anywhere, real friendly.

Black Stone Cherry, looked like a bunch of school kids and bit dull as they dont drink.

Ronnie James Dio, grumpy old fart but great live.

Gene Simmons, grumpy old fart 2, zzzzzz dont bore me Gene.

ManOwar, I was very drunk on German lager, I can just remember sweaty hair on my face and talking bollocks to Joey.

Helloween, cool guys, cant remember much.

Rob Halford and KK Downing from Judas Priest, asked Rob what his favourite piece of leather was lol, he just laughed and said I'd pass out if he told me Grin Wink

I've met a few but the one that I remember the most was meeting Sharleen Spiteri from Texas when she was recording/rehearsing at John Henry Studios in Kings Cross London.
I used to deliver carpets (for stage purposes) on a weekly basis to them and saw a few "famous" faces, but she was very friendly and VERY sexy  Shocked  Kiss
This was back in the late 1990s, she's not as sexy now...  Tongue

My ex-drummer and I met Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi in July 1975 after a West Palm Beach, Florida, concert.  We snuck backstage, saw the group in a large room of some sort, waltzed in, got thrown out, begged the roadie to let us meet the guys, he finally gave in and introduced us to Ozzy and Tony, about a 15 minute chat there.  Ozzy was relatively coherent that night, very friendly.  Tony & my drummer, who was by then playing guitar and building fuzz boxes,  had a guitar tech-talk.

I never met anyone who was a famous musician, but I know the guy that used to run the monitor mix for Head East if anyone remembers that band. Sometimes the keyboard player comes in the store with him, but I don't even know what his name is. I guess they're both just regular Joe's now.

I also went to school with Jeff Tweedy of Uncle Tupelo, or whatever they're calling the band now. Haven't seen the guy in years and don't know if I'd recognize him if I did.
