Your best bet is to delete fs9.cfg. A new one will be created the next time you start FS9.
Rename it to something like fs9.bak to back it up if you prefer.

Dave,
For you and others who experience this, the cause of that screen is that FS is unable to locate the aircraft called for by the user-saved default flight.
Hagar has a good tip however there is no need to go to the extreme of having to re-tweak your FS9.cfg.
Simply open it with Notepad and locate the line starting with-
situation=
and erase everything on that line after the equal sign.
This will cause FS to start with the out-of-the-box default flight, C172 @ KSEA.
Hope this helps,
Joe

Must admit that I'd forgotten that tweak. I don't know exactly why Dave reinstalled FS9 but my reasoning was; fresh install, new CFG.

also another little tweak for you if i might be able to make a suggestion.... look in your FS9.CFG for the following area...
[AContain]
ShowLabels=1
ShowUserLabel=0
ShowLabelManufacturer=1
ShowLabelModel=1
ShowLabelTailNumber=1
ShowLabelDistance=1
ShowLabelAltitude=1
ShowLabelAirline=0
ShowLabelAirlineAndFlightNumber=0
ShowLabelFlightPlan=0
ShowLabelContainerId=0
ShowLabelAirspeed=0
ShowLabelHeading=0
LabelDelay=1000
LabelColor=FFFF0000
change =0 to say =1. This will put the AI's Heading, Airspeed, and Takeoff/Landing Airport info in with the rotating AI Info so that you can know where your AI are headed / in what direction / and how fast.
