Can anyone tell me if this fix applies to the problem I have?

I have an AMD Phenom 9950 quad and an MSI GTX 260 lightning and the thing keeps hanging!!! I found a link to this page in the lates nVidia driver release notes page 31 (35 of the pdf).

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=270715

My Phenom uses an AM2+ socket is that the same as a K7 or K8?

nVidia forums are down at the mo.

Cheers,

N

Try nVidia again: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Select under product series GeForce 200 and your OS below that. Found nVidia very slow reponse and lengthy time to download a driver similar to your graphics card.

I have read in other forums that the nVidia driver 191.07 crashes the Sims 3 so if I install that one my wife will kill me!!!  Shocked

What I really need to know is do I have to make these changes to the computer registry;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

Value name: LargePageMinimum
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hexadecimal
Data value: 0xffffffff

As per the nVidia release notes if I have this system?

AMD Phenom 9950 Black edition AM2+
Asus M2N68-VM MOBO
4G Kingston DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz Hyper X ram (matched)
MSI N260GTX Lightning GPU
XIGMATEK NRP-MC651 650W PSU

Cheers, N

Forget the latest/greatest and go with the tried and true:

So I'm not using a K7 or K8 socket on an AM2+ Mobo?

No, your computer does not have AGP ports. Your videocard is PCI-E.

No, your computer does not have an NVIDIA GeForce 256 or Matrox G400 video adapter. You have an NVIDIA GTX 260 although I don't think this would preclude the problem completely.

No, AM2+ is the socket design your computer has. A socket is a the physical socket that the CPU is installed in.

No, the architecture of Phenom is K10 not K7 or K8. It is a Phenom not an Athlon although this may not completely prevent the problem. K10 is the design of the processor itself, not necessarily the socket.

You can try making them changes to registry, I would. If it doesn't work then just delete it. Wink

Thank you so much. It's actually the 4th 260GTX I've had so I think it's time to give up on them.

Cheers again for all the info,

N
