Making 2nd screen just have Gauges (Read 3573 times)

Okay, I got a 2nd screen, a little 15" LCD, as of now I undock the COCKPIT view and drag it over, but this is not very good, I want to have like a glass cockpit, as in having the Gauges their, but JUST them, not the cockpit view with black.

Is there anyway to do this Undecided

You'll need to create a new "panel" for the aircraft you intend to fly. This is not something I do, so I don;t know the details, but I know it can be done. I know there are payware programs that make this easy.

You create a panel in the aircraft that is proportioned to the format of the screen you will use. Make the background flat black. Position the instruments on that panel as you'd like them to appear on your "panel" (monitor). On the origianl plane this panel likely will block the entire screen. But that is OK cause you'll undock it and move it out of the way when you fly.

Hope this thought helps.

Hopefully someone who does in-sim aircraft panel work will chime in here. Maybe go up to the design section to look around too.

The gauges in my pit are run on separate computers. They are "stand alone" programs that read data from the sim and display it appropriately. They are controlled by interface hardware that attaches to those other computers.

At the moment my pit takes 5 computers to run it. One good one and 4 "junkers". When it is done that likely will go to seven machines total.

So I do not use any stuff from the simulated aircraft I am flying in the sim itself.... just the exterior model (should I change view to that), some of the internal panel's functions in emulating systems, the flight dynaics file, and the out-the-windscreen view.

The gauges I am using are Payware; Ellie Avionics Systems for most of it and FSXpand for a little of it.

There are freeware versions of these kinds of stand-alone gauges available also. See the stickies at the top of this forum section for more info.

Depending on what type of "Background" you want for your panel, I am willing to take a crack at building a "panel of gauges only" for you. I can get you a Basic Black background with as many gauges on it as you like. I have a 17" LCD Laptop .. so if I can cram them down to inside a 15" diagonal, then everything should be good. I might even be able to do a Basic Black with a Grey 'rolled' border around it.

someone else made the background, but I placed the gauges for the panel.......

if you want the entire Craft... it would take about a week for me to get permission from the creator as he does not have it uploaded yet, but I do not forsee that problem. It is an old fashioned boat that uses a BLIMP BALLOON to have lift.. and 2 large props on the rear for forward thrust. It also has Landing Gear for "earthen" runways.

Guages shown are... Landing gear, Left Fuel, Altimeter, Speed, Heading, Flaps, Right Fuel......

SimIcons are: Crossfeed for fuel, Radio Stack, ATC, Map, GPS, and Throttle Quadrant.

Currently I have 6 monitors on the go. The main outside view consists of three 22" monitors using a Matrox Triple Head on its own video card, the next two monitors are below the Main Monitors. They are on a second video card and they share the same feed.(Instruments for both pilot and co-pilot) The third single monitor is for the overhead panel, GPS and ATC window. This monitor is a old 15" from a yard sale and it runs on the same video card as the Instruments.
The instruments always default to the main screen but it now takes a few minutes to drag them to the right monitors and get the results I want. This is all running on a single computer with FSX and the acceleration pack. Depending on the location, the aircraft and the amount of traffic and weather the frame rate is very acceptable.
Once you start the multi monitor set up it will be hard to go back. I have had a few professional pilots in my jet pit and they were blown away by the full surround video experience.

Pictures on the way. The computer is a Q6600 quad core that I haven't overclocked yet. I have tried alot of tweeks and some work and some don't

NICE!!!! Now you have to start building a cockpit frame to PUT all the lovely hardware into. When I enclosed my pit... it mad all the difference in the WORLD! WELL worht the time and effort.

that really put what I have in mind to set up for my pit to utter shame...that's a nice set up there...all I got now at this time is my Xbox360 controller and/or my Saitek X45...
