Are comics considered as cartoons, or do these have to be cartoon movies?

Cool topic here.  Kind of a cartoon show junkie, got a habit of practicing guitar or keyboards while watching TV, but top 5 is hard to say for me.  Some favs now are Simpsons, 321 Penguins, Sitting Ducks (those last 2 are computer animation), Jacob Two Two.  Past favs were Pinky & the Brain, Dark Wing Duck, probably other Disney stuff.  The WB animation was also pretty cool, Bugs Bunny etc.

There's also Jane & the Dragon, which has really great computer animation, very detailed.

Sitting Ducks is really cool, with nice detail on the buildings in Ducktown.

And then there's more radical stuff like Family Guy, Southpark, and American Dad.

Well, that's all I can recall right now, I'm sure I'm leaving out a whole bunch, got a terrible memory for stuff like this.

I only saw the Jetsons once or twice, they must have been during my no-TV years back some.

Rocky and Bullwinkle - Cartoon network or someone shows reruns late at night on weekends.
Ren and Stimpy - Talking animals on drugs.
Classic Looney Toons/Warner Brothers - Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Tweety, all of that classical music stuff.

In no particular order of importance...  a lot of the stuff I watched intently as a kid seems like garbage now, but there are standouts. And fortunately there have been many excellent animated shows for me to enjoy in my adult years... I still love cartoons!  Smiley

1) One of the first cartoons I remember was Kimba the White Lion, the first color anime series out of Japan. But we watched it in B&W... this was in 1965 or thereabouts, and we wouldn't have a color set for a few more years! Grin

2)Fractured Fairy Tales: the best stuff out of Jay Ward's insane brain... also ca. 1965.

3) Any of the Warner Bros. classics... been watching them all on DVD the last few days, in fact.

4)The Simpsons... you either get it or you don't.  Grin

5)Ren and Stimpy- so sick, so wrong... so very funny!!  Cheesy

On a side note, speaking of vintage cartoons... I also remember Winky Dink, a show that actually encouraged kids to draw on the TV screen. They cleverly offered special "kits" for sale- a piece of acetate and crayons... effectively saying "buy this crap or your kids will destroy your TV!" Diabolical.  Grin  That show was actually in reruns when I was born, having run from 1953 to 1957!

Then there was the amazingly clunky Clutch Cargo... yes, those are live-action mouths superimposed on the minimalist animation. They used every trick in the book to keep the costs down on this one, including inserting live (stock?) footage from time to time.

Goofy, but at least there was an airplane in every episode!! Grin

LOL- I watched a little of this and got sucked back in all over again... now I need a big bowl of cereal smothered with cane sugar!!! Cheesy
Ahhh, the 60s... Smiley

this wiki entry explains about how Clutch Cargo was made...

Wink Thanks for that one Rotty. I remember watching Clutch Cargo in black and white. For many of us it was the transition decade between watching radio and watching television. I could only watch it at my grandparents house because my parents thought television was the devils tool and would not allow it in thier home.  Smiley

I see many familiar listings, plus a few not, but Peanuts? I used to draw my own strips for Beatle Bailey (I also had better eye-hand coordination then). As for the now, sometimes my favorite cartoon strip is... SimViation...

Yes, I remember once watching my mom's table radio falling to the floor. Cheesy Radio for the deaf?
As to your parents, many I met in my ministerial days had that strict attitude; they are correct in that it is a tool and, like any other (even guns), can be used for good or bad, like most everything else in this universe.

As the years have gone by it is ironic that my mother (83 yrs) does not own a radio anymore, only a television.
She has done a complete 180 in 50 years time. She now says there is nothing but trash on the radio.

That's unusual for a woman of her years. At least where I come from.

I think there is nothing left on TV but trash. Network TV anyway. Mindless sitcoms where you can see the punchline coming three scenes away. No values, anything goes, and you know the ending before the second commercial break. Formula scripts that run through an entire network's schedule every season.

The formula gets old.
