I'm building my own Core 2 Duo system for about $900 getting my parts from Geeks, Newegg, ZipZoomFly, and NCIXUS. Unless you really want to get the top of the line stuff, I would recommend either A: waiting until newer stuff comes out and then getting the i7 and what not for cheaper, or B: getting something else like a Core 2 Duo system.
