That's great!   Smiley

Hopefully you and your son can start to enjoy this sim to its fullest, and by the sounds of your set up, I have no doubts.  Wink

Montreal to SFO--success! SFO has been a "crasher" for him too. And it's one of the best airports we have.

Flew last night from O'Hare (a problem airport) to Frankfurt in the PMDG 747. He had a bird strike on takeoff that cracked the outer shield. Over the Atlantic he lost an engine--still don't know why. Had to shoot a missed approach in Frankfurt due to wind shear.

Landed safely after all that! It seems to be working for us.

Now on to getting the multiple monitors to work! It is still crashing when we drag the FMC or overhead panels to the other monitors. I know others can use monitors for undocked gauges. We have before as well! Why not now???

So is this looking like a simple problem with unstable overclocking?

I guess so. I ran every OC test I could find to check the stability. It always was fine. Every test passed. However, when I originally wiped the drive and started over with FS9, the computer was still OC'd when I reinstalled XP. Nick seems to think that this is the issue. Something that isn't detected by normal OC tests has corrupted the OS somehow.

This system didn't really need to be overclocked for FS9 anyway. It looks and flies exactly the same at stock speeds. Actually--better now that we can land!

Hey Steve, glad to see that you are having some fum with the sim again! Reading this makes me want to try FS9 but I have too much mula invested in FSX to try the road un traveled. One idea about moving gauges around is I think it may be video card or driver related. Have you tried NOT using nHancer and just the nvidia control panel? Just a thought. Smiley

Hadn't thought about that but I'll try. How do I disable nHancer without messing it up? Once off, do I just select AA inside FS9? Or is there something else to do in the Nvidia control panel?

Maybe select "application" for AA and AF in nHancer and activate AA and AF in FS9 if thats possible. (not sure as I dont have FS9)

Steve, Nick has always said that no matter how many tests you run on your OC, the real test is being in-game for hours and hours making sure that works. That was the problem here. Although your tests ran fine, the sim didn't like the OC. The same thing happened to me for a while until I played with the OC settings a bit (following Nick's instructions) and got it stable.

anyways, good to hear you're flying well now Smiley

Well........thought we were fixed.

Dubai to CDG crashed as I turned final. I mean usually we get the black screen and a message but this time it was like nothing had even been launched before! Just the desktop was there. No more TrackIR, no Ground Environment and no FS9.

I am very frustrated. Something is wrong and I don't know how to even start with everything that is on this system.

I cannot believe this is for real!... Shocked..!

My ancient AMD 2600+ Thoroughbred (2.1 GHZ) SOCKET A Processor, together with my ancient nVidia 7800GS AGP 256 MB Graphics Card, and 2 GB of installed memory...

...and absolutely NOTHING over-clocked, runs my highly reliable FS 2004 in my Solo and Multiplayer flights with other Pilots, with everything wound up to the maximum, day after day, for up to 18 hours per day for years, with no problems...!

....a firm advocate of NOT over-clocking anything unnecessarily, for total reliability!.... Kiss...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Navigator... Cool...!

(My ancient system even runs FSX SP2 with the most important settings wound up to the max with no problems, although I prefer the FS 2004 Scenery).

I know! I thought FS9 was supposed to be the stable one. Here's how we fly, step-by-step:

At the desktop,

1) Radar Contact (Load Route, plane, etc.)
2) Open TrackIR, minimize.
3) Open SceneryManager and activate only airports and scenery that we will be using.
4) Open AES Help and make sure the AES is activated if applicable.
4b) If flying with airplane with load manager...set it up.
4c) If flying with PMDG 747, set up FS2Crew interface.
5) Open Ground Environment, load departure and arrival airport info, click OK to launch FS9.
5) Inside Sim: Open Weather, Set Fuel, Payload, Import Panel for FS2Crew if neccesary, Put in full screen.
6) Predeparture checklists: FMC, Boarding, Checklists, etc.
7) Push back and fly.

If there are any mistakes here my son will correct it later. Anything stand out as not correct?

(edited to correct the sequence)

Steve,

In reading around on the net I have heard/seen some AES issues cropping up in certain situations....but I can't tremember what they were.

Try not using AES for a bit and see if the crashes stop.

In general you have a number of pieces of software all running at the same time.  The potential for unintended interactions is enormous.

Can you please add in all the HARDWARE interfaces you are running on that computer at the same time to the listing?

That is the reason that a lot of us with simpits use multiple computers (distributed computing).  It tends to eliminate as much of this issue as possible.

best,

....................john

PS:  I am looking at a lot of demands on RAM there.  Have you run scans on your memory modules?
