I was thinking about this before I heard about Lucy...  Weird...

Anyway, the best 5 covers of Beatles songs, IMHO, (and the worst).

1:  With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker

2:  Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett

3:  Come Together - Aerosmith

4:  Helter Skelter - Pat Benetar

5:  We Can Work It Out - Tesla

and the worst has to be a tie between William Shatner's 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' and the Brady Bunch singing 'Love Me Do'   Tongue

I don't know if this counts since they didn't write it.

How could I have forgotten Yesterday.

According to Wikipedia/Guiness Book of World Records Quote:
"Yesterday" has the most cover versions of any song ever written. The song remains popular today with more than 3,000 recorded cover versions

This is the song that put the Beatles on the map.  Before this they were just another pop group.  Yesterday showed that Lennon and McCartney were legitimate songwriters and The Beatles were going to mature and be around for a while.

Yesterday was written by Paul McCartney. John Lennon had nothing to do with it. The other Beatles didn't perform on the recording.
