Didn't help. if I re-installed, would I have to put all my aftermarket scenery back on, too?

I don't understand this. I have had FS2004 on this present computer for almost a month since I had the new hard drives put in. I have just the default airplanes , with maybe one or two add-ons. I had FS2004 on this computer for well over a year with its previous 250Gb drives, and I had about a hundred add-ons and a few sceneries from SimV, plus a boatload of stuff from abacus and FSGenesis. Never had a problem. What could it be?

Just tried FSX. Launches just fine. Zero problems...

available memory, and Hard Disk space are totally different.  You may have 415GB of disk drive space available, but how much PHYSICAL MEMORY do you have, as well as VIRTUAL MEMORY???

also, have you tired running Disk Cleanup, and then Defrag?



1 program that I use instead of Windows Disk Cleanup (because D.C. does not clean EVERYTHING) is a FREE program called CCleaner [www.ccleaner.com]. Not only will it clean your C:\ , your E:\ , (any harddrive), but it will also clean out your Computers Registry of old, unused entries that are just lingering around slowing down your computer.  It can also ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS better than the one that Microsoft made and installed.

after you run this program, I would run a full system DEFRAG.



if you are running XP, could you please go to START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM INFORMATION.   

please tell us your Operating System with service pack #, Physical Memory, Video Card, Processor type.   ... These things will help us get to the root of your problem and help you troubleshoot your computer a lot faster.

as OPA suggests, have you tried to install any new scenery files?  If you can remember, what was the last 3 things that you changed / added to FS9 before you started noticing problems?


have you updated any drivers to your computer? Video, Sound Card?

could have been as simple as one of the gauges was messed up (but then again, it would have kicked out "there is a file that is not correct XXXXXX.gau) or something to the effect.

I have a 120gb External HDD that i keep everything associated to Flight sim on and run from the External. Keeps my C:\ nice and clean and more room for windows updates.. lol.   I have FS9 and X: Deluxe, FSHost/client/spy, Teamspeak Server/Client, ATC Radar Screen 5, all of the scenery building files, .... EVERYTHING FS on the External.  Not to mention all of my family pictures, and Music that we have downloaded.

E:\Microsoft Games = 46.7 GB Total, including FS9, and X

[FS9 = 14.6GB]

[FSx = 16.3GB]

Music = 3.55GB

Pics = 3.27GB



its only a thought and suggestion, get an external harddrive from any major computer retail store and put FS9 and X on it to keep even more space on your C: and thus you can crank your Virtual Memory up a little more being that your computer uses the C: for Virtual Memory.   .... ie, better FPS in Flight Sim, not to mention smoother running over all, plus faster boot ups from dead cold.

you could just "cut/paste" your Microsoft Games/FS9 folder to your "E:" or whatever your 2ndary drive is that is 283GB Free, Locate your FS9.CFG (is it NOT located in your FS9 folder, but rather in C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

after you have moved your Microsoft Games folder to your secondary drive, DELETE your FS9.CFG.  Restart FS9 and let it build a new one.   

It is now on your secondary drive and not on your C: drive.






But then again, if you are going to uninstall it from your C: anyways...... "IF" you do reinstall it, choose CUSTOM INSTALL, and tell it to put it on the 2nd drive and not the C:


suggestion: After it is on the second drive, go inside your FS9 folder and CREATE A NEW FOLDER.   Name it DL'ed CRAFT AND PROGS.  -- store all of your .zip files for your craft / scenery / fs9 programs inside this folder.   Also, when you unzip / extract all files... put them in THIS folder 1st before you just load them to the sim.  That way you can check the files to make sure you get what you are supposed to.  -------- this is your "oops, i screwed up the craft / scenery files and I want the original files back for that craft / scenery / program" backup file.

I have had a bad scenery BGL and a bad XML gauge cause that message.  Very hard to trace unless you check things each time you change anything...
