They say they know who the hacker is, and have told the UK police. I guess the hacker might be from the UK then.

"Politics" is made up of two words, "Poli", which is Greek for "many", and "tics", which are blood sucking insects. - Gore Vidal

Well that's progress but still doesn't heal the wounds caused by the attacks.

I know that AVSIM would not do it, and it is illegal to do it, but it is only MY PERSONAL OPINION, but I feel that AVSIM should be allowed to gain access to the perpertrators computer and erase their harddrive in retaliation. Again, this is only my person view, it may or may not be shared by others, so please do not rip me too hard.
Not only should they have their harddrive(s) erased, they should be "tagged" to never be allowed to have Internet Service for the rest of their lives, as well as spending a MINIMUM 30 days of Jail that is Mandatory, and to pay restitution in the amount to equal what the company (avsim) had to pay its employees to reconstruct the servers.
----- what do you guys think about the punishment?? Too harsh? not harsh enough?

All except the "wipe their computer" part sounds good. That first part you propose is too much regressive "an eye for an eye".
BUT...and this is a BIG "but" here........ first of all they have to actually be GUILTY of a crime. What if the actual genesis of the problems with the servers are more like a "programming screw up" by someone who was asked to or hired to do work on them, rather than a deliberate totally un-requested violation of the computer firewalls, security, and so on? Not a "hack" with all the connotations that word has, but a total "screw up" in programming protocol, safety, or methods.
It seems to me that the lawyers MIGHT have their work cut out for them if this is the nature of the situation. Defining the difference will be VERY difficult to prove, methinks.
NONE OF US
has any clue as to the real issues and "how it went down". All we have is the stuff that is posted on the net.... and you know how THAT goes

Ditto... an accusation is not sufficient proof of guilt, but if guilt is proven, there should be punishment.
