When Im installing FS9 because FSX is horrid! The installation process goes to 95% and then holds and then this box pops up and it says "Cannot Create world.cab" Anyone know what may be causing this? I am running Windows Vista x32bit! Thanks in advance!

Check your FS9 CD for dirt & scratches. Clean it carefully if necessary. Also shut down anti-virus software before running the install. Don't forget to do this again if your PC is automatically restarted during the install process.

Please tell me if this helps.

Hagar,

The self-installers. Also will The Fs9 update work in the Express
Install Of Century Of Flight?  Thank you for your Patience.

Hagar,

The self-installers.

Ah, you mean 3rd party addons. I think this is confusing the issue as Matthew is having problems installing FS9 itself.

I don't see why not. However, I'm not the best person to answer this as I've never installed the FS9.1 update.

this particular file will NOT harm your computer in any way, shape, or form!!!! This file is perfectly safe, as it pertains to ONLY Flight Simulator.  It is a scenery file that only works with flight simulator (in this case FS2004).  fsx, has its own fsx/scenery/world file, as i assume, FS2000 and FS2002 do also.

Being that MICROSOFT made the game; and it is TESTED by Micro$oft, your WINDOWS VISTA was made by MICROSOFT...... are you seeing a trend???? Microsoft would not make something to damage something else of theirs!

Matthew's original post is about INSTALLING FS9.
NOT
a 3rd party addon.   He is saying that in the BASE installation, it installs up to 95%, when it reaches FS9/SCENERY/WORLD/SCENERY  it stops responding.  There is no mention to a 3rd party installation.

as to Raptors reply MATTHEW..... follow the 1st half of what he says.  DELETE what you have already installed, reboot your computer, then try installing FS9 again.

the FS9.1 update has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with "Express install".  The 9.1 update Fixes the following **(found in the FS9.1 UPDATE README WORDPAD FILE)**::

Quote:
Fixed Autogen performance degradation –
Flying out of an area then back to the same area may cause lower frame rates. The problem was due to a memory leak and how Flight Simulator handled autogen objects. Depending on the specific configuration and scenario, some users observed significantly lower frame rates. The update fully addresses this issue and users should have full functionality of all autogen objects without adverse performance problems.

Fixed Seasonal Crash to Desktop –
Going to specific airports during certain seasons would cause Flight Simulator to crash. In previous versions of Flight Simulator we assumed there would be 16 or fewer land classes within a 1km patch of terrain. That assumption was no longer valid for Flight Simulator 9.0. This could cause Flight Simulator to crash when loading areas with a large number of land class seasonal and vector data variations. This issue has been fully addressed and Flight Simulator will no longer crash when loading these land class seasonal and vector data variations.

Improved Digital Elevation Mesh Support –
The Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (update) increases the level of digital elevation mesh (DEM) support from 38 meters to 19 meters.

Replaced Missing Landmark Bridges –
In Flight Simulator 9.0 we replaced many old bridge models with new bridge models. During this process many bridges that were in previous versions of Flight Simulator were inadvertently omitted and the new bridge model was never placed. We replaced approximately 160 missing bridge models that were omitted from Flight Simulator 9.0.

See the Appendix: List of Replaced Bridges for a listing of the replaced bridges.

Note: Set the Scenery Density setting to Normal or higher to see the new bridge models.

Added Autogen Objects to KJFK Satellite Photo –
With the exception of KJFK airport, all High Detail airports in Flight Simulator 9.0 were annotated with autogen objects. We have now added Autogen objects to the area in and surrounding KJFK airport.

Fixed Multiple Sporadic Crashes -
We have identified and repaired several areas in the Flight Simulator code to improve stability for very specific conditions involving ATC, AI aircraft, aircraft loading, facilities, weather, and multiplayer.

Fixed the Incorrect Check Ride Certificate –
When completing the Solo Checkride, you’ll now receive the Solo Certificate, not the Private Pilot Certificate.

Improved Support for  Matrox Parhelia Cards –
Rendered fog now displays correctly in the Virtual Cockpit on Matrox Parhelia video cards.

Water rendering and the Japanese language –
Water effects now render correctly in the Japanese language version.

Fixed multiplayer support –
In certain scenarios, a failed DirectX installation caused Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight to stop functioning when multiplayer sessions were initialized. This problem is fixed in the update.

I as well as a lot of other people here have the update, you may have it too.  If you have any questions reguarding the 9.1 update, just ask and I will give you the answer or go read the README! file.  It is supplied for a reason.

We obviously have our wires crossed. I was talking about Raptor.

I've experienced much the same trouble as Matthew when installing FS9 for friends. This is invariably caused by problems with extracting the large CAB files on the installation CDs. Anti-virus software is notorious for causing this problem, hence my advice to turn it off during installation. Rebooting can also help as you suggest.

I could do without the sarcasm.

It's an option when you're installing FS9. You can either do an Express or Custom install. Nothing to do with 3rd party addons.
