Woodstock at Wikipedia

August 15-18, 1969

Well, I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, Tell me, where are you going?
This he told me

Said, I'm going down to Yasgur's Farm,
Gonna join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land and set my soul free.

We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Here's a tune from a guy who was "getting a bit old now" - My Generation

Maybe this should be linked into the entertainment section. Although I may not agree with all things from that era, lyrically speaking, I managed to collect a number of vinyl disks for a few dollors or less as the vinyl era fizzled (also inherited numerous bakelite 78s from my mom). With my financial status in jeopardy, I'm hoping to, somehow, retain them and also transfer these to CD:
Mamas & Papas [oops! I just had to insert the 2nd 'a' in Papas Roll Eyes],
Animals,
Association,
Beatles [while they were all on the beat],
Beau Brummels,
Bee Gees,
Box Tops,
Byrds,
Creedence (but I already have original CDs for most of their songs),
DC5,
Neil Diamond,
Doors  (13 album),
Electric Prunes,
4 Seasons,
Hollies,
Jay & the Americans,
Jefferson Airplane,
Kinks,
Left Banke,
Kenny Loggins,
Outsiders,
Presley,
P.Revere & the Raiders,
Rascals [when they were 'Young'],
Rolling Stones [when they weren't so threatened with gathering moss],
Seeds,
Standells,
Yardbirds...

and a number of others you may remember?

Cool

After achieving fame and fortune headliner Jimi Hendrix died a year after Woodstock, on September 18, 1970.

He would soon be followed by Janis Joplin, on October 4, 1970.

Both were 27 years old.

Not playing Woodstock may have contributed to the longevity of Doors vocalist Jim Morrison.  He lived until July 3, 1971.

He was 27 years old.

H: That's quite a list there, covers a lot.  As Webb mentioned: Cream, Joplin, Hendrix, Doors.   There's Iron Butterfly, the Who, gotta be some others I can't think of right now.  Yep, it's Deja Vu all over again.

The Outsiders?!? Yeah, I remember them, 'Time Won't Let Me'.  Seeds, 'Pushin' Too Hard', Beau Brummels, some really cool tune, can't remember the name, Box Tops, 'The Letter', Jefferson Airplane, 'Somebody To Love', still get the chills when I hear that one, Standells, 'Dirty Water' (I think).   Wow, great list! Having been an active rocker from 1967-1973, I lived and played it all.  A great flashback here.  Those were the days.

Oh yeah, the Brummels tune was 'Laugh, Laugh'.  Whoosh!

The Outsiders?!? Yeah, I remember them, 'Time Won't Let Me',
I'll Give You Time, Help Me, Girl...

Quote:
Box Tops, 'The Letter',
Cry Like a Baby and Neon Rainbow. The write-up on the album case (presently in hand) mentions as a rumor what I read in another write-up years ago: their main singer, Alex Chilton, was 15 and used amphetamines to lower his voice.

Quote:
Jefferson Airplane, 'Somebody To Love',
White Rabbit, It's No Secret...

Quote:
Standells, 'Dirty Water'.
I do have that song somewhere (they were from Boston and I also had a semester of school in 1970's Boston); in hand is their Why Pick on Me?/Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White album.

Quote:
Oh yeah, the Brummels tune was 'Laugh, Laugh',
and Just a Little.

There's a number of others, groups and solo singers, I've not listed; some of it goes back before us.

Although I sang on stage in a boy's chorus (soprano, no less), singeing my fingers for instant callous didn't help my real problem with trying to play guitar for rock music: I'm loose(double)-jointed and my fingers would lock backwards (not quite the type of "fretting" intended). The closest I came was as "technical advisor" to a local high school band. I later learned to play and write music (only one-that-went-nowhere published) by matching a keyboard to my voice -- and my voice eventually changed, too... those soprano notes are about an octave above my falsetto.

Cheesy
