I'd like a hardware FMC that is USB plug and play. I don't like the VR Insight version--it looks cheap to me.

Is there a FMC that will work in a generic cockpit that doesn't cost a fortune? C'mon GoFlight---fill the void!!

Suggestions?

Hi Steve,

OpenCockpits do a hardware FMC at €337.00

http://www.opencockpits.com/catalog/b737-mounted-ready-p-197.html?cPath=22

This is ready made, but you might find it a bit cheaper in kit form if you look around their site.

For software to use with it, there is vasFMC,

http://vas-project.org/

This is freeware so doesn't add anything to the cost and includes the SIOC server for the OpenCockpits FMC, so is fully compatible.

Regards,

I would suggest you get one in your hand and have a look before you say VR is looking cheap. I have one of their panels and the quality is the reason I bought it. All metal and very well put together.  Cheesy
As for GoFlight, they may fill the gap, but the average simmer will have to sell something precious to be able to buy it.

But the VR Insight version doesn't replicate an actual FMC. It has only a one line LED screen.

Also, VAS-FMC doesn't support VNAV? How can your FMC be useful without VNAV?

Maybe I read that wrong....

In all truth, no Sim FMC replicates the real thing. No matter what you go for you will not even be scratching the surface. I work with them daily and still find things and functions that I did not know they had Grin

VAS-FMC doesn't support VNAV, yet.....

Alex and his team are continually upgrading and adding new features, if you have a look around the VAS forum you will find that VNAV is planned sometime in the future...

Steve,

I think I read somewhere that they have released a new version that has a full lcd screen instead of the "dumb" one liner.

Of course they likely increased the price to reflect that.  Wink

John,

Do you use a FMC in your cockpit? If so, which one?

Nope....cause the BAE-146-200 does not HAVE one.

However I eventually will add one...since my pit is MY pit... and I am not necessarily tied to duplicating the real aircraft.  I can install anything for "upgrades" in my aircraft that I want and can afford.   Wink

I'm already using "Boeing Glass" (Ellie Avionics Systems).

Not strictly true John, some had them and others not. BAe supplied the GNS-X on option. I think all the hybrid Analogue/Glass cockpits had them.
